The creation of new ministries by President Nana Akufo-Addo is an attempt to provide jobs for some key members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhassan Suhuyini has said.

President Nana Akufo-Addo on Wednesday 11 January, while announcing some ministerial nominees, named some new ministries like the Ministry of Monitoring & Evaluation, Ministry of Railway Development, and the Ministry of Regional Reorganisation and Development.

Speaking to Class News about the president’s list of ministerial nominees, the broadcaster-turned-politician said some ministries were unnecessary because they were simply duplications which could create conflict.

“Indeed, change has come, hasn’t it? The jobs that they promised to create have started and fortunately they seem to be starting from the top, and so far we know of the creation of five new ministries. You can clearly see that we are going to have conflict among ministries because there is clear duplication in many of these cases,” he stated.

“If for nothing at all, just imagine the letterheads that all these new ministries are going to have to print. These were people who criticised the size of President John Dramani Mahama’s government.

You would have expected something better. I didn’t even imagine that we would have a Senior Minister and then later we are told that we are going to have a minister who will be in charge of monitoring and evaluation? Why do you have to put six people now to be in charge of what two people were in charge of? Is it to say that their men are not competent enough to handle these things so they have to share?”

Meanwhile, Mr Akufo-Addo is expected to announce his third batch of Ministers-designate today, Thursday 12 January, to add to the 25 already announced.
