Aviance to take over ground handling at new Kumasi International Airport

Aviance, one of the leading passenger and ground handling companies in Ghana, is scheduled to take over the ground handling operations of the two main domestic airlines servicing the newly-renovated Kumasi International Airport.

Africa World Airlines (AWA) and PassionAir currently handle their own ground operations, but as part of measures to streamline the operations of the airport in anticipation of the commencement of scheduled international passenger flights, Aviance is set to take over their ground handling operations at no extra cost and absorb their ramp operation staff.

Mark Kamis, Managing Director of Aviance, noted that his outfit is delighted to be providing the much-needed ground and passenger handling services at the Kumasi Int. Airport.

“We are excited to expand our ground handling activity to our airline customers in Kumasi and Tamale,” Mr. Kamis said in response to the recent provision of ground handling services to Egypt Air’s A320 that landed at the Kumasi International Airport with the Zamalek Football team onboard.

Two international airlines have applied to operate charter services and scheduled international flights to the newly-renovated Kumasi International Airport.

The Deputy Minister of Transport In-Charge of Aviation, Hassan Tampuli, previously told AviationGhana that: “Regarding the Kumasi International Airport, the Ministry of Transport has already received a request from an [international] airline to operate from the Kumasi International Airport, even though it is not completed yet."

"So there is a lot of interest already. No incentives have been given but some people have already started seeing the business available in that. I can assure you that one airline has written insisting that they want to operate from Kumasi. There is another group that is planning start direct service from Manchester to Kumasi.”

AviationGhana sources say the number of enquiries by international airlines to operate flights to and from the Kumasi International Airport, have increased in the lead up to the inauguration of the facility on May 10, 2024.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II are to officially inaugurate the facility on the said date ahead of the full operationalization at the end of June, 2024.

They will be accompanied by the Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, and the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.
