The Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Tertiary Students' Confederacy (Tescon), Kwadwo Baffour, has stated that his team will support Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia's bid to lead the party as a flagbearer.

In an exclusive interview with Kwabena Mensah Abrompah on Radio Univers, Polo as he is widely referred to, expressed his belief that Bawumia is the party's best hope to "break the eight" come 2024.

"For the Greater Accra accredited Tescon institutions that will be voting, we will give Dr. Bawumia 100% because we believe that he is the only person who can 'break the eight' for the NPP," Polo affirmed.

He further acknowledged the concerns expressed by some about the state of the economy but emphasized that these concerns exist globally.

He pointed out, "People have been complaining about the economy, but it is all over the world…but here, it is a bit better; we are not in dumsor, whatever we want to buy, we get."

Bawumia will contest for the flagbearership slot along with three other contenders including Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The NPP has slated November 4, 2023, to elect a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as leader of the party.
