The authorities of the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School (SHS) have revealed that the Kintampo Waterfalls was not part of the itinerary of students who had embarked on an excursion.

“The arrangement was for them to travel to the Mole National Park in the Northern Region and were expected back on campus on Sunday evening to enable them attend classes on Monday”, a senior staff member told mynewsgh.com.

According to the Headmaster of the School, he is yet to be briefed on why those leading the excursion made up 63 people including a driver and some teachers decided to veer off the arranged plans which resulted in the death of the students.

Meanwhile, the current death toll officially stands at 18 out of the 63 persons who were at the scene of the disaster.

Seven (7) persons with severe injuries are currently at the general ward of the Kintampo Government Hospital while 11 with minor injuries have been admitted at other wards injured.

Students of the University of National Resources in Sunyani who were also on excursion including some residents of Kintampo and some tourists were all affected.

As at press time, relations were trooping into the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman and the Kintampo Government Hospital to identify the bodies of their deceased relations.
