Dr. Gideon Boako, spokesperson of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has tasked the government and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to help Ghanaians understand the distinction between the current power sector challenges and the one witnessed under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show on Monday, April 22, 2024, Dr. Boako noted that while the current incidents of erratic power supply remain troubling, the magnitude cannot be compared to what was experienced during the National Democratic Congress administration in 2015 and 2016.

"On the issue of energy, what hurts me is us sitting and being silent for someone to perceive that the dumsor of Mahama’s era is the same as the current era, no, they are highly incomparable. It’s like boot and chale wote,” he noted.

He thus emphasised the need for government including stakeholder agencies such as the Electricity Company of Ghana to communicate in clear terms the causes of the current challenges and the measures being taken to address them.

“We need to speak up and explain issues to give Ghanaians that assurance and to also help them understand the situation and the effort being put into solving it,” he stated.

Ghanaians over the last few months have been subjected to unstable power supply leading to fervent calls on the Electricity Company of Ghana to release a load shedding management schedule.

However while admitting to the challenge, members of the ruling party and the government have opposed the idea of comparing the current situation to the one under Mahama.
