Financial Consultant and member of OccupyGhana, Sidney Casely-Hayford has blamed the failure of the National Identification Authority (NIA) to deliver the Ghana Card on Monday on the incompetence of the nation’s politicians.

“This situation with the Ghana Card is no different from so many other things that never get completed…I’m not sure the problem is with those contracted to provide the service…the political class has not delivered for Ghana on identification and a lot of other things,” Casely-Hayford said on Citi FM’s The Big Issue Saturday.

He added “for some reason, we are sifting through the 28 million people in the country and getting a handful of people who are not competent enough to manage our affairs…this is just a political class letting us down one more time.”

Officials of the Jubilee House and other key institutions including Parliament who had gathered at selected centres to get their National ID Card also known as Ghana Card were left stranded and disappointed after officers of the NIA failed to turn up for the registration exercise.

The exercise scheduled to kick off at 7:00 am never happened.

The NIA has apologized for the fiasco amidst calls for its leadership to be held responsible for embarrassing the government.

It was the third time the NIA had failed to deliver the Ghana Card after giving deadlines for the project to take off.
