On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was officially presented by the National Democratic Congress as the running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama for the 2024 presidential election.
The event held at the UPSA Auditorium in Accra also saw the running mate deliver her acceptance speech following her nomination.
In an address that lasted some hours, the running mate expressed gratitude to Mr Mahama for choosing her for the second time running.
In what has been described by many as a significant improvement in her political communication four years after her first nomination as running mate, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang on Wednesday delivered direct shots at the government on various matters including corruption, the economy and governance.
Her address has since received varied reactions on social media with members and sympathisers of the NDC rating her high.
On the other hand, members of the governing New Patriotic Party have sought to downplay the general impact of her address and her candidature.
Meanwhile, several critics and political neutrals including the founding president and CEO of IMANi Africa, Franklin Cudjoe have given Prof. Opoku-Agyemang high marks for her performance on Wednesday night.

Is the comparison between who applies makeup the most or who is intelligent? If we talk about intellectuals no one in the Npp can compare him or herself to Prof Jane, know this and know peace. https://t.co/7Yfxwomrjw

The first test of sound leadership qualities of any presidential candidate heading into an election is the calibre of the person chosen to be a running-mate. Once again Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman has proven that John Mahama passed that test with a wise and historic choice.

Jane Naana came to snatch the stage today. Reading a speech exactly how you should let it connect to the people listening, and bringing the right emotions along with it.

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed from Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s speech, she’s definitely more assertive, more punchy, more confrontational, more energetic. Those things set Bawumia apart in 2014-2016. It will be interesting to see how much she’s able to sustain this energy.…
