NPP To Breed Rebels In Ivory Coast For Violence In 2012

The gun-toting foreign policy adopted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, regarding the electoral stalemate in Ivory Coast, has been generating very interesting revelations, the latest being that the NPP is hoping to breed rebels in that country for use in the 2012 elections.

The posture of the NPP led by its flagbearer in the Ivory Coast debacle exposes the opposition party's war thirstiness in that country regardless of the foreseeable dire consequences for Ghana's strategic national interest should the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) embark on a military action in a bid to get rid of incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo in favour of his rival, internationally acclaimed winner of the election, Mr. Alassane Quattara. Intelligence information available to The Catalyst hinted that the position of the NPP that President Mills should take a militant stance and send troops to engage in a war in Ivory Coast aimed at removing Mr. Gbagbo from power by force is borne out of a very dangerous strategic interest of the party.

According to the information, the NPP is hoping that war will breakout in Ivory Coast so that it can exploit the situation as a fertile ground of breeding rebels it intends to deploy for violent acts in the 2012 elections should the need arise, in the party's estimation.

According to the intelligence info., the NPP feels badly injured by its defeat in the 2008 general elections and will resort to any possible means, fair or foul, to recapture power as indicated by leading members of the party since it lost power two years ago.

Against this backdrop, the source said the NPP is planning to set in motion a plethora of violent acts in the next elections where, if given the chance, rebel activity may not be out of the question.

It would be remembered that at his first press conference after suffering defeat in the hands of President Mills in the 2008 presidential election, Nana Akufo-Addo made a categorical statement that his party, the NPP has, what he called, militants that were on red alert to unleash havoc on the Mills-led government and the NDC anytime they deemed it necessary.

Our intelligence information said the NPP leader's statement is a palpable reality that should not be treated as a mere political talk.

Tying the NPP flagbearer's startling revelation to a confession made by the former NPP National Organizer, Lord Commey, that he was in command of some violent group he referred to as 'action troopers' who the party had trained to snatch ballot boxes at gunpoint during elections, the intelligence source said the Mills government and the security services better be on the lookout because the NPP has something dastardly up its sleeves towards the 2012 elections. A leading member of the NPP, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, also unequivocally stated his party's position regarding how bloody and deadly it intends to turn the 2012 elections into.

According to Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, “2012 elections will be a gorilla war.” The intelligence information indicated that with the NPP replete with a bloody mindset, the party views the unfortunate situation in the Ivory Coast as a good opportunity to breed rebels for a possible onslaught in Ghana in the next general elections, which are barely two years away.

To emphasise the point that the NPP will use every violent means to fight the next elections, the party's current National Organiser, Alhaji Muctar Bamba made it clear at his election that he was going to form what he called 'Bamba Boys' a group that will be ruthless in dealing with the NDC.

The intelligence source said a military action against Mr Gbagbo would surely result in a bloody civil war in Ivory Coast that will not only negatively affect that country but engulf the whole West African sub-region, with Ghana being at the worst receiving end.

Nana Akufo-Addo is reported to be in league with Mr. Quatarra.

According to reports, the NPP flagbearer is being propped up by France and Burkina Faso to rabble-rouse in Ghana regarding the Ivorian crisis in advocating for a military action against Mr. Gbagbo since President Mills has taken the wise option of a peaceful resolution of the matter.

The President's decision, the intelligence source, said does not conform to the NPP's agenda, hence the opposition party's hullabaloo.

The source said the NPP knows too well the repercussions of any military action by ECOWAS in La Cote D'Ivoire but does not care because the party is looking only at its parochial interest- a dangerous interest at that- and this must not be allowed to happen.

It said there must be no military action by ECOWAS in Cote D'Ivoire and Ghanaians will see how the party can breed its rebels there.
