The ongoing rancor in the main opposition New Patriotic Party has resulted in the death of one in Asawase, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

Abubakr Mohammed, 30, who owes allegiance to the current acting chair of the troubled opposition party Freddie Blay was stabbed several times in a confrontation with supporters of the suspended national chairman Paul Afoko Friday.

According to Starr News’ Ashanti regional correspondent Isaac Bediako Justice the deceased met his death after he and his group engaged in an open fight with the Afoko supporters who had returned to the constituency office after staging a protest in Accra on Thursday.

The Asawase district Police command has reportedly taken over control at the constituency office while the murder is being investigated.

The internal wrangling in the opposition party has hit the crescendo following the suspension of its national chairman by the National Executive Committee.

Scores of his supporters thronged the party’s headquarters demanding his reinstatement. His spokesperson has described the suspension as an illegality which must be reversed.
