Never seen such impunity – Prof Opoku-Agyemang on greed, arrogance of Akufo-Addo's government

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate to NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, delivered a scathing rebuke of the current Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration during her outdooring ceremony by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday.

Speaking at the University of Professional Studies auditorium in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang declared that Ghanaians are not living in ordinary times.

She cited unprecedented levels of “greed, unbridled arrogance, unrestrained impunity, sheer dishonesty, barefaced hypocrisy and incompassion” displayed by the incumbent government over the past seven years.

“Never have we experienced the levels of greed, unbridled arrogance, unrestrained impunity, sheer dishonesty, barefaced hypocrisy and incompassion displayed by this incumbent government over the past seven years and more,” she stated emphatically.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the formidable task ahead but drew inspiration from Ghana’s history of resilience and perseverance through challenging times.

She vowed that an NDC government would hold accountable those responsible for the “plunder of the state,” a promise she says is rooted in the wishes of citizens across political and social divides.

The former education minister also lambasted the Akufo-Addo administration for promoting “ethnocentric elitism masquerading as intellectualism,” nepotism cloaked as know-how, and crony capitalism masked as development.

She blamed these factors for leaving Ghana in a state of near insolvency, with its natural resources and environment in disarray.

“The most significant achievement of these things has been a country in near insolvency, its natural resources such as water and land and environment in rebellion, a people harassed and intimidated into numbness and as some say cynically, bribed into silence,” Opoku-Agyemang added.
