Coach Maxwell Konadu, Nasam Yakubu, Prof. J.K Mintah and other members who constitute the current backroom team of the Black Stars will maintain their respective roles under the incoming head coach, the Ghana FA has indicated.

Speaking to GHOne TV Sports, Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara explained the Ghana FA’s decision to maintain its policy of making the Black Stars coach work with an already established backroom made of local breed.

The Ghana FA spokesperson stated that in the case an expatriate is appointed new coach of the Black Stars coach, he will not be allowed to bring his backroom staff.

“It is a stated policy in this country that getting a foreign coach doesn’t end there. We must also have a policy that if we are bringing a highly-experienced foreign coach, the local persons must also be able to learn something from him.

“If it is a foreign coach we are choosing, I don’t think we will depart from that. We would want to have a local person assist him and same applies to the local coach – in that, we’ve got a set backroom staff that he will be working with,” Sannie Daara stated.

“Otherwise, it will look as if we are only interested in empowering or giving the job to foreigners without any recourse for local coaches who might also learn then when they have the opportunity in the future, they can also show us what they can do,” he added.

The deadline for the submission of applications for the job made vacant by the departure of former Chelsea boss Avram Grant is Friday, March 10.
