The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Cape Coast Metropolis, Mr. Ernest Arthur has indicated that the first lady of the land, Mrs. Rebecca Akuffo – Addo, has immense love for the people of Anafo, a suburb of Cape Coast, hence her fight to ensure that the market construction project becomes a reality.

Mayor 1 revealed at the sod cutting ceremony of the new Anafo market that Mrs. Rebecca Akuffo – Addo is the catalyst behind the decision to refurbish the old Anafo market since she played an integral and instrumental role that led to the commencement of the project.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ernest Arthur revealed that after so many calls from both residents and the market women for a new market, he had to call on the first lady to intervene. In this regard, the first lady then lobbied the Chief Executive Officer of the Coastal Development Authority to undertake the project.

It was after this lobbying that about 8.6 million Ghana cedis was made available to fund the project. He therefore urged the residents and the burgeoning crowd to offer a big praise and show gratitude for that kind gesture.

“Recently, residents of Anafo have made complaints and also demanded a new market. However, since I didn’t have the clouts to pull that off, I had to consult the first lady of the land, Mrs. Rebecca Akuffo – Addo to help me salvage the situation. Indeed, she was very receptive and instrumental as a result of her immense love she has for the women of Anafo and Cape Coast at large. As a result, she convinced and lobbied the C.E.O of the Coastal Development Authority to search for funds to realize this dream and beautiful edifice we all expect to see. Today, if we are seeing the light shining brightly on this project, then remember that it took the grave effort and love of Mrs. Rebecca Akuffo – Addo to lobby for the project. I therefore implore you to show great gratitude to her” he demanded as he spoke in Fanti.

He therefore used the opportunity to congratulate the Coastal Development Authority for their immense work in the metropolis ranging from the refurbishment of the Cape Coast Town Hall, Jubilee Park and a plethora of other small projects being undertaken in the metropolis. He thus added that very soon, the authority is scheduled to construct a new sea defense project at “Abrofo Mpaono”, a suburb of the Cape Coast metropolis that is constantly perturbed by waves.

“We have all seen the good work of the Coastal Development Authority in the Cape Coast metropolis since its establishment. There are several physical projects they have undertaken, and the evidence is overwhelming. A clear example is the refurbishment of the Cape Coast Town Hall, Jubilee park and other small projects being done. Very soon, they shall be embarking on a sea defense project at Abrofo Mpoano so that when the waves slurp to the shore, it doesn’t affect the residents there again” he intimated.

Hon. Ernest Arthur is currently standing on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) to contest against incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Rickets Hagan for the Cape Coast South constituency seat. Mayor 1 emerged victor at their primaries last year, when it was conducted for the “orphan” constituencies.
