Rainstorm renders over 370 people homeless

Atuobikrom (E/R), Feb. 8, GNA-A severe rainstorm that swept through Atuobikrom near Kwahu Praso left in its trail several collapsed buildings including classroom blocks of the local Roman Catholic Primary and Junior High Schools and 370 people homeless. Three persons including a primary school boy got injured; two of them were treated and discharged at the community health centre while a 60-year-old woman, Abena Dufie, whose condition was critical, had to be admitted at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital. The homeless were putting up with friends and relatives while 626 school children of the Roman Catholic Primary and JHS were attending classe= s in chapels and under trees.

Officials of the Kwahu West District office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) had visited the community and according them, accessed the damage caused and had sent a report to the Eastern Regional office of NADMO at Koforidua for assistant. The Ghana Education Service Circuit Supervisor in charge of the area, Mr Patrick Ampadu, and the Assembly member-elect for the area, Mr Eric Twum= , have appealed to the district assembly for immediate to restore the collapsed school buildings. When the District Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Omari was contacted, he said efforts were being made by the assembly to purchase roofing sheets and other materials to restore the damaged school buildings 93while we wait on NADMO to support the people with some relief items". 8 Feb.11
