Stop attacking police personnel and properties – IGP warns perpetrators

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante-Apeatu has warned the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands by attacking security personnel and destroying properties of the police service.

His caution comes on the back of a recent attack on the Somanya Police station in the Eastern Region and burning of a police vehicle by angry residents who in the event set free four rioters in Police cells on Monday afternoon.

It took the timely intervention of a Military and police reinforcement team to fire warning shots to restore law and order.

Tension has been mounting in Somanya after Dendenden, a supposed ring leader reported to have masterminded last Friday’s demonstration was arrested and sent to the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters.

But speaking at the commissioning of Ahwiaa Police Station and Health Centre in the Bekwai Municipal of the Ashanti Region the IGP David Asante-Apeatu said any person who will attack or support the attack of any police facility will face the law of this country.

He urged Ghanaians to endeavor to end lawlessness and promote community peace and safety to strength Ghana democracy.

“Over the years, the police administration has witnessed reckless attack on some police station and sometimes we cannot understand the motivation behind such behavior. The property of the police is for the State so therefore we must protect them” he said.
