The historic event that took place on April 26, 1999, marked the elevation of Barima Kwaku Duah to the esteemed position of Asantehene, becoming the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool.

In a captivating ceremony, Barima Kwaku Duah, holding the revered Busumuru sword in his right hand, swore the solemn oath of Asanteman.

With this oath, he embraced the responsibilities and duties inherent in his new role as the paramount ruler of the Asante people.

“I’m the grandchild of Nana Agyeman Prempeh. My uncle is Osei… my brother is Opoku Ware II,” he is heard saying in the video.

Choosing the stool name Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Barima Kwaku Duah embarked on a journey to lead his people with wisdom, grace, and a deep reverence for Asante customs and values.

This name pays homage to the legendary founder of the Asante Empire, Osei Tutu I, who unified the Ashanti people and established the foundation of the Asante Kingdom, in the 17th century.

The anniversary celebrations are a vibrant tribute to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's illustrious reign and the enduring legacy he has cultivated over the past 25 years.

The recent 'Ahohor Durbar' brought together people from around the globe to honor the Asantehene, demonstrating the widespread admiration and respect he commands.

Coinciding with the Ahohor Durbar was the revered Awukudae, a significant occasion in Asante culture, marked by traditional rites and festivities.

This convergence of events underscored the cultural richness and vitality of the Asante Kingdom, showcasing its deep-rooted traditions and enduring heritage.

The commemorative events continue with the eagerly anticipated 'Fireworks Night,' which took place on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Following the fireworks extravaganza, a musical concert was held with performances.

Finally, the anniversary culminates in a grand non-denominational church service to be held at Dwabrem on Friday, April 26, marking the exact date of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's ascension to the throne 25 years ago.
