President Akufo-Addo has confidently assured Ghanaians that the pending 2024 general elections will be peaceful and credible.

He pointed to the successful and peaceful conduct of the recent Ejisu by-elections as a testament to the country's ability to hold free and fair elections.

Speaking at the 2024 May Day event in Accra, the President emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order during the electoral process. He encouraged Ghanaians, particularly workers, to actively participate in the elections and exercise their right to vote.

“Like in previous ones, Ghana will once again emerge stronger, more united, and more capable, advancing development goals. Workers, as the backbone of our country, have a special role to play in shaping our elections. Your voices matter; your participation is essential,” said Akufo-Addo.

The Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Yaw Baah, also called on the Electoral Commission to ensure that the elections are free, fair, and transparent, and that they reflect the will of the Ghanaian people.

He also urged the police and judiciary to carry out their responsibilities effectively to maintain law and order and guarantee the integrity of the process.

Overall, the President's assurance and the TUC's call for free and fair elections have set a positive tone for the upcoming elections, and Ghanaians are hopeful that the country will continue to consolidate its democratic gains.
