Undertake projects to commemorate anniversary-Amoah

Yabiw (W/R,) July.15 (Smith)-GNA-Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, on Friday called on communities to undertake development projects to commemorate the country's Golden Jubilee. Making the call at the annual Guamoto Festival of the people of Yabiw at Yabiw, he said communities in the region that initiate golden jubilee commemorative projects would be given assistance by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

Mr Amoah also urged communities to undertake tree planting programmes enable them attract tourists to their areas during the celebration of the golden jubilee throughout next year. He said communities should, at least plant 15 species of trees and the Forestry Division is prepared to supply tree seedlings to interested communities.

Mr Amoah advised the youth to take advantage of the government's youth employment programme and acquire skills to assist in the development of the country and their communities and earn a living. He promised to donate 10 street light bulbs to the community.

Mr Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive, announced that the metropolitan school-feeding programme has taken off at Asakai with about 640 school children benefiting from it. He said first cycle education is now free and it is up to parents and guardians to recognise their responsibility towards their wards and send them to school.

Mr Nkrumah said the Metropolitan Assembly has decided to construct a public place of convenience for the community under the urban sanitation programme.

He said the assembly is also to construct access road to link Yabiw with Anto and Shama.

Mr Nkrumah said engineers have already taken a survey of the project. He said the assembly wants constructional work on the Shama hospital to be completed for the people to benefit from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Mr Nkrumah said the assembly would decide whether to reward contract on the hospital because work on the hospital has come to a standstill. Nana Kweku Binnah 111, Omanhene of Shama Traditional Area, appealed to the people to register for the NHIS and expressed concern about the slow pace of work on the Shama Hospital.

Nana Kwamina Wienu 11, Chief of Yabiw and Adontehen of Shama Traditional Area, urged parents to ensure their children continue their education after completing JSS.

Dr Francis Saighoe, assemblyman for Supomu-Dunkwa, who presided asked parents to invest in the education of their children.
