In other words as preservatives. These kinds of foods then remain on shelves for longer periods and at a point become stale and no longer fresh and not good for consumption with no nutritional value. Besides the paraldehyde or the formaldehyde becomes even poison to the consumers who eat these fruits or vegetables.
Some people are therefore wary and cautious about eating fruits when in Accra especially apples.

I was so suspicious about her putting something in the oil to cause the yams to be abnormally crispy.
We got into a lil argument, I scolded her and dumped the yams in a garbage can next to her.
These sellers will kill us.
Since then I have not purchased fried yam from the streets.
Now when I’m hungry I look for roasted plantain to buy. The next thing I buy is coconut.
There must be education ion TVs and FM stations.
