Statement: NPP cautions independent candidates

The attention of the New Patriotic Party has been drawn to statements being made by some persons contesting in this year’s elections as Independent parliamentary candidates to the effect that they have the blessings of the party to contest as parliamentary candidates.

The New Patriotic Party wishes to emphatically state that no independent candidate has the blessing of the party to contest in this year’s election.

Of particular interest to the party are claims being made by Vivian Ntriwaah Addae a parliamentary candidate in the Okaikoi South constituency claming she has the blessing of our 2012 Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to contest the Okaikoi South Seat. The NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Okaikoi South constituency is Mr Ahmed Arthur. He was duly elected by NPP delegates in the constituency, and has the mandate of the party to contest as its parliamentary candidate for that constituency.

Similarly, Mr Moses Anim is the NPP’s only parliamentary candidate for the Trobo constituency. Statements being made by one Nii Ayittey Attoh claiming he has the party’s mandate to contest against our parliamentary candidate, Mr Anim, are not true.

The New Patriotic Party wishes to make it clear to the general public that Nana Akufo-Addo has not asked any of the above “independent candidates” to campaign on his behalf or to vote “skirt and blouse”. They are no longer members of the New Patriotic Party and we ask them to desist from using the NPP’s name in their respective campaigns.
