MTN inferno: Fire man collapses; fire tender in an accident

A fire fighter battling to put out the raging fire that engulfed the warehouse belonging to telecom giants MTN has collapsed.

The victim has been rushed to the hospital, Joy News has learnt.

Officials of the fire service suspect their colleague may have suffered from exhaustion and the continued inhalation of the thick smoke that emanated from the debris.

They told Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey, the accident comes with the job.

It is not too clear how the victim is faring at the hospital even though the personnel hope their colleague will respond to treatment.

The warehouse containing cables belonging to MTN and located on the Spintex road in Accra was gutted by fire, Tuesday afternoon.

Brobbey said the fire has been quenched despite initial fears it will rage for hours.

Officials of MTN are tight-lipped on the matter but have promised to issue an official statement after the incident.

In a related development, a fire tender which was on its way to the MTN warehouse was involved in an accident.

The fire tender was said to have collided with a 207 benz bus at Okponglo near Legon in Accra.

An eye witness said many of the passengers in the bus have sustained varying degrees of injuries after their bus somersaulted many times.
