Haruna Essuku descends on Pianim, Wereko-Brobby

A former chairman of the main Opposition New Patriotic Party has told XYZ News that he personally declined to respond to an application letter by another founder member Kwame Pianim to be re-admitted into the party in 2001.

According to Harruna Esseku, he denied Mr. Pianim the opportunity to rejoin the party because he was peeved about certain actions he had taken regarding the NPP in 1996.

Mr. Esseku’s disclosure comes in the wake of questions about Mr. Pianim’s membership and loyalty to the NPP following his recent disagreement with the party over its many boycotts of Presidential activities.

In an exclusive interview with XYZ News’ Kwame Danso Acheampong, the veteran politician said both Mr. Pianim and fellow dissenting member Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby are not members of the Party.

“He [Kwame Pianim] left the party and in 2001 when we came into office, I was the Chairman of the party and he wrote a letter wanting to return to the party,” Mr. Esseku said, adding that “I did not reply to that letter and I refused to have it discussed at any NEC meeting”.

“As at today I don’t consider him as a member of the party but he can call himself a party member, it doesn’t matter but for people to describe him as a leading member of party is simply not write,” Mr. Esseku added.
