NDC: Nana Addo has done well

A member of the NDC communication team, Alhaji Halidu Haruna has commended the 2012 presidential candidate of the opposition NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for not hesitating to resort to court against the Electoral Commission (EC) and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over election rigging.

This, he believes, has broadened his horizon over a ‘bad’ perception he had of Ghana’s judicial system.

“Before the start of the court case, I had a certain level of doubt in terms of the credibility of our court system. But honestly speaking, this case have really influenced me, now I know the judicial system mainly the Supreme Court, they have a very good grounds and firm grounds and in my humble opinion I have realised they are impartial in their rulings," he said.

“…my perception that there is no credibility in our judicial system has totally changed. This case has impacted positively and has changed that perception."

The opposition NPP gave meaning to the party's quest to seek legal redress after claiming the 2012 General Elections were rigged in favour of President John Dramani Mahama when its team of seasoned lawyers stormed the Supreme Court to file a suit seeking to invalidate the 2012 Presidential Election results.

On December 9, 2012, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), declared President Mahama as the president-elect in the December 7 polls, as the NPP made a failed attempt to convince the EC boss to put the results on hold for 24 hours to enable the party to produce more evidence of alleged discrepancies that would have enormous impact on the final results.

The party promptly rejected the declared results and declared its resolve to seek redress at the Supreme Court.

Speaking on an Accra-based Adom FM, the NDC man glorified NPP's Nana Addo for his bravery in seeking court intervention.

“I commend Nana Addo…he has really done well,” he said.

“Nana with his experience in law should have been in the witness box to defend their party’s petition because Dr. Bawumia according to the lawyers is inexperienced."
