Catholic NGO supports mathematics education

The Marshallan Relief and Development Services (MAREDES), a Catholic non-governmental organization, on Friday, donated mathematical sets to 200 female students of the Savelugu Yoo RC Primary School in support of mathematics education.

Sir Knight Eddie Prah, Board Chairman of the MAREDES, who donated the items, urged the students to strive for academic excellence despite the strenuous conditions under which they found themselves.

He said the donation was to encourage them psychologically and practically to pursue mathematics education, indicating that, the subject could open the door for many opportunities and aid in scientific discoveries.

He advised the girls not to allow anybody, or situations to put them down, but to ignore the stereotypes that society might put on them to excel in their academic work to enable them contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.

Sir Prah indicated that MAREDES was devoting its resources into charitable activities to promote the welfare of society, especially advocating the needs of the under privileged.

He added that the NGO since its inception had supported many individuals and groups through its philanthropic works.

He commended the support of ECOBANK for financing the donation and promised that they would sustain the initiative to reach out to over one million girls in three years, adding that over 2,000 girls would benefit this year.

Miss Abanga Mercy, a beneficiary pupil, commended the NGO for the donation and promised to put them to good use to gain future rewards.
