Rawlings endorses Amissah-Arthur

Those who want Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur out ahead of the 2016 presidential elections or scheming to take his position should perish the thought, as President John Dramani Mahama will not be dropping him as a running mate.

No matter what plan is hatched, no matter the scheme or desperation.

In the last few months, there have been media reports of a plot by some politicians scheming to edge out Vice President Amissah-Arthur from being the running mate of President Mahama should he decide to seek a second term in 2016.

Attempts to deny Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur the chance of being running mate to President Mahama in the 2016 elections has been crushed by the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former president Jerry John Rawlings.

According Mr. Rawlings, Amissah-Arthur has proven himself as one who understood the essence of the 1979 and 1981 revolutions and appreciated history, despite the disagreements he had with him; something former President Rawlings believes and considers very loyal.

The statement by the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) gives the Vice President thumbs up and is an endorsement of his running mate slot. This is an indication and a caution to the hawks in the party who are nursing their ambitions to become running mate to Mahama to back off.

Mr Rawlings openly gave Mr. Kwesi Amissah Arthur tons of commendations before millions of party members and sympathizers at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, on the occasion of the NDC’s 8th National Delegates Congress.

He made reference to the Vice President’s address at the recent memorial service of the late Louis Casely Hayford (former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority), saying he fell in love with Mr Amissah-Arthur suddenly.

President John Dramani Mahama some few months ago registered his trust and confidence in Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amisssah-Arthur with special thanks for his huge role in the organization and participation of the just ended National Economic Forum (NEF) where he described the work of the Vice President as exemplary and his lead role before and during the forum has also come up for commendation.

The duo went on to win the 2012 presidential elections, and have so far enjoyed a robust relationship.

Attempts by some people in the past to drive a wedge between them has been met with utmost resistance. Fending off accusations of duplicity and low political turpitude against Kwesi Amissah Arthur recently.

Information from highly placed sources has it on authority that, should the President decide to seek a second term, which he would, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur will be his running mate, adding that the sinister moves and desperation from those who are eying the position would fall flat, as the President cannot change his mind on running with Mr Kwesi Amissah Arthur.

The source, who is knowledgeable with the political calculations confirmed that the President would after all, have the former BoG Governor by his side as running mate when he declares to run in 2016 because it is team work and you don’t change a winning team.
