Black Starlets return home to a Heroes' welcome after winning Silver at the U17 AYC

The Black Starlets of Ghana returned home to a hero’s welcome after a successful battle at the U17 African Youth Championship held in Gabon where the team won the Silver trophy for placing second in the tournament.

The team failed to clinch the ultimate which Ghana had failed to win for the past 18 years after suffering their maiden defeat in the final to the Malians, the defending Champions.

An overly charged home fans graced the Kotoka International Airport in their numbers to welcome the young men.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin who was overwhelmed by the crowd expressed his utmost satisfaction and gratitude to the people of Ghana

“I’m overwhelmed because I never expected this crowd and we are so grateful for your support and we hope to do well next time,” he said.

The ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars’ as the Starlets are affectionately called were also met by members of the Ghana Football Association and the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports.

Speaking to the team on their arrival, the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Pius Hadzie articulated that the Starlets deserved a hero’s welcome for achieving such a fea6t.

“The whole country is happy with your achievement and you have done yourselves and your country proud.”
