A new digital application to help movie producers as well as lovers for mutual benefit has been launched in Kumasi.

The technological platform, which would be accessible to users of Mobile Network MTN, known as Kumawood App, is meant to provide movie lovers with a variety of their favourite local movies on their handsets while it offers the producers easy access for marketing.

The new digitised App which is the first of its kind in sub Saharan Africa was launched by MTN, in conjunction with the App developers MTECH Communications Limited Ghana and Kumawood, one of the leading movie production companies in Ghana.

General Manager in charge of Consumer Marketing Noel Kojo Gamson speaking to the media at the launch explained that the new innovation was made cheap and attractive to enhance the enjoyment of the consumer.

He explained that patrons have an opportunity to preview the movies on the App for free to help them decide which movie they should watch or not, they could subscribe to watch any movie for the whole day with just GH1.00, or subscribe for the whole week, month or year.

“The vision for us is to continue exciting our customers, continue giving them the best to enjoy the new digital world they find themselves in hence we find this very appropriate,” he noted.

According to him, people used to watch movies on cassettes, tapes and compact discs in the past but looking at where the world is going today, there is the need to digitize all these so that they can watch their favorite movies everywhere ‘and one of the ways that as a leading Telco “we have decided to do is to migrate all that we do in a much more digital way hence the support for this innovation.”

Mr. Kojo Gamson further explained that the choice of Kumawood is as a result of the fact that it is the fastest growing movie industry in the country and well accepted across the African continent, hence their resolve to begin with them.

Chief Executive Officer of MTECH Mr. Chimere Mbonu, said the platform is basically to put power in the hands of movie content distribution over the digital space using smart phones.

He noted that the App would be a great way of showcasing more Ghanaian movies to other parts of Africa as it is the first of its kind and starting in Ghana.

“Any country in the sub-Saharan Africa we send this App will first have access to all Ghanaian movies as they are the pacesetters of the App and we will soon go into the music industry as well,” he announced.

The Chief Executive of Kumawood, Samuel Darko, described the collaboration as a well and wisely thought out one since it would be of great help to movie producers especially in the country.

He noted that many producers have expressed interest in the App and were sending their movies to him to be uploaded.
