Mr.Isaac Kusi's article on Genetically Modified Foods is a real food for thought. The Government should heed the warnings and not give in to outside pressure. As intelligently described in the article we should never give up our organically grown foods for any scientific experiments. Why should the government sacrifice Ghana as guinea pig for experiments? The country has been used for many an experiment already.
Is the government making use of our versatile institution: The University of Science and Technology in Kumasi established by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah? Given much needed funds the institution can make the necessary research and experiments on the country's food production. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to put our local scientists who are familiar with the local conditions to work than relying on the so-called experts from outside? Sadly, despite the brain drain there are scientists capable of doing excellent work. We don't seem to have confidence in our own manpower and do not appreciate anything that we have. Ghanaians hail everything from outside like manna from heaven . The country's leadership should realise that suggestions from outside is to the benefit of those who give the suggestions and not to the benefit of the country.
Ghana seems to be more colonized than before, all these years our leaders still take orders from outside. The recent BBC documentary which compared Ghana with Malaysia, both countries which started almost on the same footing, was a sad one. The gap is so great that it would take Ghana more than half a century to close it. Feature page
