NUGS to continue to oppose ROPA Bill

The debate on the controversial people?s representation bill has entered the university campuses where it appears to have divided the student?s front.

Two years ago the executive of the National Union of Ghana Students, NUGS stated its position against the bill, which was reaffirmed by its president, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa has rubbished comments by the President of Ghana Union of Professional Students, Ransford Addo.

The NUGS central committee says the attempt by Ransford Addo to dissociate some blocs of NUGS from the position of the NUGS President, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa on the Representation of the People?s Amendment Bill does not reflect the opinion of the student body.

The local NUGS President of the University of Ghana, Adam Gariba Malik who chaired the press briefing said the Union opposes passing of the ROPAB bill.

For this reason, the statement made by NUGS President Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reflects the stand of the union taken two years ago.
