The 2024 edition of the Platinum Cup comes off on Saturday, April 27, 2024, with some mouthwatering fixtures lined up in the football competition.

The draw for the corporate games which was held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, produced some interesting matchups with the defending champions Stanbic Ghana Limited being placed in Group A.

Alongside Stanbic Bank in Group A are the National Petroleum Authority, HI-LYNKS Communication, and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

Group B of the football competition will have the International Maritime Hospital, the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, Omega Foods and Beverages Limited, and the Volta River Authority battling for spots in the next stage.

Per the competition’s rules, the eight teams will compete in 10-minute games in a round-robin format to determine who advances to the next round.

Speaking at the draw, Yaw Sakyi Afari, the Chief Executive Officer of RITE Sports, who are the organisers of the event, underscored the importance of fairness in the competition.

He appealed to the participating firms to present their staff and not engage the services of professional footballers and athletes.

Yaw Sakyi disclosed that the purpose of the competition is to ensure a balance between office duties and fitness demands.

He believes that the Platinum Cup serves as an opportunity to remind corporate workers of the importance of exercising and keeping fit.

"We are thrilled to announce the return of the Platinum Cup," he said.

"After a period of anticipation, we are ready to reignite the spirit of competition and camaraderie that defines this event. The Platinum Cup is more than just a fun tournament for corporate institutions; it's an opportunity for teams to come together, challenge themselves, and create lasting memories," Sakyi explained.

The various companies and organisations promised to compete fairly and also give off their best to make the event a great success.

Other games lined up for the event which will be held at the University of Ghana Sarbah Field are table tennis, a 100-meter race, draughts, cards, CEOs Penalty Shootout, and a women’s penalty shootout.
