Ghanaians Abroad: Team Of The Season

GK: Richard Kingston (Elazigspor, Turkey) ? He?s become more consistent and less mistake prone than before. His performances might have earned him a transfer to the top division with BB Ankaraspor K. At smaller clubs, perhaps the keeper has a bigger impact and he enhanced Elazigspor, made them more solid.

DEF RB: George Blay (La Louvi?re, Belgium) - Until his recent injury, he was one of the most consistent Ghanaian players in Europe. Playing at the position regularly for his Belgium club and ease with which he stops opposing attackers, and also his forward runs, should have made him an excellent right back solution for the national team.

DEF CENTRE 1: Sam Johnson (Kayserispor, Turkey) ? ?Foyoo? proved his critics wrong and showed everyone that he still has what it takes to perform exceptionally. One of the main reasons his club survived the drop. Few Ghanaian players have his determination and even though his technical abilities are not top notch, he makes up for it with his fighting spirit and aggressiveness, thus not letting his opponents any breathing space. Despite his age, he is still one of the best all round players around. He deserves one more shot with the national side.

DEF CENTRE 2: Mohammed Gargo (Genoa, Italy) ? Ten years after it sunk into Serie B, Genoa, one of Italy's oldest clubs, returned to the top flight. Gargo was one of the main reasons Genoa?s defence was the least beaten. The ex-international defender started the season as a benchwarmer, but became a regular and the coach played him whenever he was available, as he guarantees stability and security to the whole department. John Mensah looked the obvious choice for this position, but he was a constant feature on the bench for most of the season.

DEF LB: Hans Sarpei (Bielefield, Germany) ? One of the few Ghanaian players in Germany who was consistent throughout the season in a position, which seems to have few quality Ghanaian players available. He can anticipate an opponent?s move like few others making him a strong candidate for the national team.

DEF MIDFIELD 1: Abubakari Yakubu (Vitesse, Netherlands) ? He played for Vitesse from the start of this season on loan from Ajax. The 24-year-old, who was voted best player of his club by the fans, will transfer from Ajax to Vitesse permanently. Improved considerably in his defensive duties, but also retained his creativeness in launching inch perfect assists to the forwards. The move from Ajax seems to have boosted his confidence.

DEF MIDFIELD 2: M. Essien (Lyon, France) - Considered one of world soccer's most promising talents, the 22-year-old combines both quality and quantity - he can tackle, pass, has a high stamina level and scores goals. Voted Player of the Year by his fellow professionals in France's Ligue 1 was proof once again, if proof were still needed, that we are witnessing the rise of one of Ghana?s greatest players. He was instrumental to French Champions Lyon, scoring and making goals and dragging his team along. He is the team's character and backbone and is already one of the most sought after players.

ATT MID RIGHT: Sulley Muntari (Udinese, Italy) ? When Udinese added this young player to their starting line-up at the start of the season, few expected him to do so well, but Muntari proved everyone wrong with some excellent performances and a maturity and experience which players at his age do not usually possess. A hot favorite to emulate Essien next season if he can keep his feet on the ground.

ATT MID CENTRE: Stephen Appiah (Juventus, Italy) ? It hasn?t been the easiest of seasons for the national team captain, but he didn?t let Juventus down during the final stages of the league. Let?s not forget he?s in competition for a place on one of the worlds best clubs. Appiah had an excellent start to the season, but then was sidelined for most of the second part, mostly because of some stray passing. He was given another chance towards the end and this time he did not disappoint as he performed well and even scored a stunner against Cagliari.

ATTACKER: Asamoah Gyan (Modena, Italy) ? A brilliant season by the rookie. All Ghanaian fans will be hoping that he repeats his performances with the national team to guide them to our first World Cup final.

ATTACKER: Mathew Amoah (Vittesse, Netherlands) ? Top scorer of Ghanaian in Europe and therefore rightfully deserves to be in the first eleven. His consistency in front of goal was impressive.
