Stars performance excites CAF Technical expert

Former Senegal coach, Joseph Diop has applauded the performance of the Black Stars at the on-going 2013 Africa cup of Nations in South Africa.

Diop, who is the Technical Expert of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for Group B told GNA Sports that the Stars under the guidance of Kwasi Appiah has displayed a fine trend of the modern game.

The Senegalese, also a member of the Technical Study Group (TSG) for the tournament also scored full marks for the tactical and technical abilities of the Stars due to face northern neighbours Burkina Faso for a place at the final on Wednesday in Nelspruit.

“Ghana has given a good impression of themselves. They play collectively and move swiftly from defence to attack. Mali, DR Congo and Niger followed in that order in a true reflection of the group’s standings in the end.”

Assessing the team, the CAF TSG member said: “They play with a blocked midfield using the flanks and there is also fluidity between defence and attack and vice versa. This style allows for offensive play.

“They have experienced players and their performance is a true reflection of the current state of football in the country and ranked amongst the top teams in Africa.”

The veteran trainer also singled out Ghana Captain, Gyan, for his leadership qualities on the pitch, contrary to criticisms by a cross-section of the public that the 27-year old has under-performed with the measuring rule being his previous performances for the national team.

“I was seriously impressed by Asamoah Gyan; his authority on the game, fair play and his movements. He is realistic in front of goal.”

The Senegalese has also patted youngster Christian Atsu on his maiden appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Christian Atsu is extremely talented, skilful and a good dribbler. He changes the rhythm of the game.

Victory for the Stars against Burkina Faso will book them a place for Sunday’s final in Johannesburg against either Nigeria or Mali.
