Court fines nursing mother for inflicting deep razor wounds

Kumasi, Feb. 2, GNA - A 28-year nursing mother has been ordered by a Kumasi Circuit Court to pay a fine of GH¢500.00 for inflicting deep razor blade cuts on the face of a co-tenant during a fight. Afia Achiaa was additionally instructed to compensate the victim with GH¢1,000.00 and sign a two-year bond to be of good behaviour. The convict would serve six months in prison in default. Achiaa had earlier pleaded not guilty to charges of causing harm, unlawful damage and unlawful entry. Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah-Appenteng told the court presided over by Mr Justice William Boampong that the complainant, Minas Aliu, lived in the same house with Achiaa at Bremang West, a suburb of Kumasi. On April 26, last year, the two picked a quarrel, resulting in a fight and seething with anger, the convict attacked Minas with a razor blade, opening deep cuts on her left cheek and bit her mouth. Minas was rescued by neighbours. Achiaa also smashed the microwave, blender and cell phone of the complainant. A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the convict.
