Fake Journalist arrested

Accra, July 25, GNA - A young man who posed as a journalist was on Tuesday arrested at the British Council in Accra, after media personnel covering an event there exposed him.

The man, who identified himself as Dennis Brown, was allegedly earlier chased away from a function organised by the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) at the Council. He later moved to another assignment at the same Council which was being held by the Ghana Union of Professional Students and there too he spotted out and challenged.

Mr Brown, who registered as a reporter working with Radio Universe, an Accra based FM Station, persistently denied the claim that he was an impostor, and said he was a stringer, who often sold out his stories to the FM station.

When the organisers contacted the station on phone to verify his identity, the Management denied the claim that he was stringing for them.

He was arrested with the assistance of Sec Point Security and sent to the Ministries Police Station.

The Police confirmed the arrest and said he was in their custody and was being investigated.
