Farmer fined GH¢ 200 for causing harm

Akim Oda (E/R), Jan. 14, GNA - The Akim Swedru Circuit Court has imposed a fine of GH¢ 200 on Frank Gyamera, a farmer, for beating up a man, who tried to prevent him from destroying a stick of cigarette. Gyamera, who pleaded guilty to causing harm, would serve a nine-month prison term with hard labour, if he defaulted in paying the fine. Prosecuting Police Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the Court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that there was a grand funeral at Suabe, in the Brim North District, on December 11 2009. He said at the funeral grounds the complainant, Mr Kofi Arhin met a man, who wanted to buy cigarette, and he took him to a house where cigarettes were sold. Inspector Appiah said when the cigarette was given to the man, Gyamera, who is a tenant in the house, collected it and broke it into pieces. He said when Mr Arhin tried to prevent Gyamera from destroying the cigarette; Gyamera pounced on him, slapped him, pushed him down and in the scuffle bit the Mr Arhin's chin before they were separated. As a result, Mr Arhin collapsed and was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment, after which a report was made to the Police and Gyamera was arrested. 14 Jan 2010
