Farmer in remand for defiling primary two pupil

The circuit court in Tarkwa has remanded a farmer, Daniel Azawutor, 38, into prison custody for defiling a primary two pupil at Bonsawere in the Tarkwa Nsueam constituency.

He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear before the court on April 24.

Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that the complainant, Francis Morrison, is related to the victim who is 12-year-old, while the accused who is popularly known as Efo reside in the same vicinity at Bonsawere with them.

She said on Wednesday April 3, this year, around 2330 hours, an aunt of the victim saw her going out of the main door of the house and returned 30 minutes later.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said when the aunt enquired from the victim where she went, she explained that she visited the accused in his house and he gave her GH1.50 pesewas.

The aunt became furious and marched her to the accused house, who confirmed that the victim only came to ask him money for school and that he did not have sexual intercourse with her.

According to the Prosecutor, the victim later confessed to her aunt that last year Efo proposed to be his friend and when she visited him in his room at night he had sexual intercourse with her on his bed after which he gave her GHC10.

She said a report was made to the Nsuta police and the accused was arrested.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said when the victim was sent to the hospital for examination it was confirmed that she had been defiled.

The Prosecutor said all the parties involved were then referred to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit’s division in Tarkwa. She said after a thorough investigation on the issue, the accused was charged with the offence.
