Mechanic remanded for abduction, defilement and incest

Accra, Feb. 8, GNA - A mechanic accused of abducting and defiling his five- year-old daughter on Tuesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. John Koka whose plea was not taken is facing charges of abduction, defilement and incest.

The court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa remanded Koka int= o Police custody pending further investigations. He is to re-appear on February 15. The prosecutor Police Inspector I.A.A. Ahor told the court that the victim lived with her mother, the complainant at Accra Newtown. Accused, the prosecutor said was the father of the victim who lived at Accra and Takoradi respectively.

The prosecutor said sometime in 2006, there was a misunderstanding between the accused and victim's mother as a result they divorced. In March 2008, the accused went and picked the victim without the consent of her mother and sent her to his sister at Takoradi. The prosecutor said in May 2008, the accused brought the victim to her mother in Accra.

He said the following day, when victim's mother was bathing her, the victim pleaded with her mother not to wash her vagina. Inspector Ahor said victim's mother became alarmed and confronted the victim who stated that it was "Dada" that is the accused who inserted his penis and fingers into her vagina.

The prosecutor said when the victim was taken to her grandmother she repeated what she had told her mother. In 2008, victim's mother therefore reported the matter to the Police who issued a medical form to the victim to be examined. Prosecution said the accused however disappeared until February 1, this year, when he was spotted and arrested in Accra.
