Robber says he went to steal gas cylinder

Awudu Ibrahim, a motor bicycle repairer who robbed an estate developer at gun point at Nnai Dzorn in Accra, on Monday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Ibrahim, charged with robbery, pleaded not guilty and said he went there to steal the complainant Mr. Richard Aryee’s gas cylinder.

Ibrahim and his two other accomplices, now at large, are alleged to have made away with cash and properties worth GHc 4,600 cedis.

The court presided over by Mr. Francis Obiri remanded Ibrahim, who sustained gunshot wounds on the buttocks during the operation, into prison custody to reappear on April 14.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) P.A Morkeh said on March 7 at about 0230 hours when the complainant and the family were asleep, Ibrahim in the company of two others armed with a locally manufactured pistol, a car jack and a screw driver broke into the room of the complainant and attacked him and the wife and made away with two mobile phones and cash of GHc 2,000 cedis.

DSP Morkeh said the complainant shouted for help and his brothers who were around the neighbourhood came out with their guns and shot at the robbers who escaped through the kitchen window.

Ibrahim was hit in the buttocks.

DSP Morkeh Ibrahim was arrested and taken to the Police Hospital where he was admitted.
