Woman remanded for possessing cannabis

Kumasi, Oct 11, GNA - A circuit court in Kumasi has remanded into prison custody a 44-year-old woman for allegedly possessing 20 parcels of leaves suspected to be cannabis.

The plea of Akosua Konadu was not taken, to allow for further investigations and samples of the leaves to be examined at the Police Forensic Laboratory.

She was ordered to reappear at court on October 31. 09 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Doris Amewu told the court presided over by Mr Justice D.W.P Amedior that complainants in the case were police officers of the Police Highway Patrol Unit. ASP Amewu said that when members of the Unit were on duty on the Kumasi-Abuakwa road on October 6 at about 1300 hours, they had a tip off that a Mercedes Benz bus was heading towards Dadieso in the Western Region with dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. He said the leaves, concealed in a fertilizer sack, were found when they intercepted and searched the vehicle. ASP Amewu said the suspect claimed ownership of the dried leaves and she was arrested.

ASP Amewu told the court that the suspect in a caution statement said she was asked by a woman called Grace to send the leaves to a man she only named 93Frenchman" at Dadieso.
