Ghanaians must note, however, that such commissioners are commonplace in Governors' offices in the US, targeting ethnic-political blocs on social, educational and economic issues, and most importantly, VOTES when elections come.
All the members of the commission are called commissioners.
For example, all the members of the National Reconciliation Commission would be called "Commissioners".
They are not the supreme bosses of the commission.
The Chairman of the commission is.
He reports to the Governor.
Addison is not Chairman of the commission.
This is not to berate his appointment, but just for those who do not understand to do so.
CONGRATULATIONS, Addison!

First of all as a news item, I think it was in order for the interest of all Ghanaians and Africans. But for the fact that there are other Ghanaians who are also members of this Commission but were not mentioned in the AMIP article, I cant see the angle from which you describe it as cheap publicity.
Secondly, the attached article says that the Governor of Atlanta (the antique title reminds me of colonial governors)created the said Commission on African Affairs to address the need for State agencies to respond effectively to the needs and concerns of Africans in Maryland. This, apparently, was done in May 2009.
It also says that "..The Commission WAS APPOINTED by the Governor and his administration in order to address the issues facing the African community at the highest level."
What the article does not however tell us is why Mr. Frederick Nnoma-Addison's name is not included in the 20-member listing of African Commissioners and Chairpersons.
Over and above these mundane observations, I am inclined to think that the creation of this Commission is a step in the right direction and it could go a step further by focusing on and exploring the myriad of gaping idle opportunities that abound between Africa and Atlanta - which is known as the center of black wealth, political power and culture in America.
Such an initiative could make both Africa and America richer and better lands in many ways.
My only disquiet about this Commission is the predominance of half of its membership by Nigerians. I cant believe that it is not possible to replace at least 8 out of the ten Nigerians with Africans of other nationalities living in Atlanta.
Again, I hope those Africans on the Commission are people of substance and mettle who know the history of Africa, who know the deplorable socio-economic conditions of where they come from and where Africa aspires to go and not the drooling subservient types who will willy-nilly permit themselves to be manipulated and used against the interest of Africans in Atlanta as well as in Africa the 'motherland'.

Praise for overall ability to be on a Commission is harmful because it suggests that any good performance is a result of natural ability of being on a Commission, with the implication that a poor performance will be a result of natural deficiency.
Such praises makes the person reluctant to take on a difficult challenges, which always has the possibility of failure and may signal a lack of ability and threaten his overall self esteem.
So, may it be proposed that the man Addison should be praised for an effort and for specific achievements, like his writing of books that are clearly linked to hard work, rather than for ability to be on a Commission on which many African predecessors on the Commission never sought for praise or even seek publicity or be told, than to be praised by an empty fat low headed relative.

DEAR ADDISON AND READING PUBLIC OF GHANAWEB.COM,
TO RESPECTFULLY MAKE THE CASE TO SEEK CERTAIN CLARIFICATIONS BEFORE I CAN REALLY SEE MY WAY CLEAR TO SEND MY MESSAGE OF CONGRATULATIONS TO ADDISON ON HIS APPOINTMENT IN MARYLAND AS COMMISSIONER ON AFRICAN AFFAIRS AS FOLLOWS:
(i) WHETHER OR NOT THE ADDISON WAS AMONGST THOSE WHEN I WAS RESIDENT IN RICHMOND, VIRGINIA SWITCHING MY TELEPHONE TO MARYLAND?
(ii) WHETHER OR NOT THE SAID ADDISON WAS AMONGST THOSE WHEN I WAS CHOSEN FOR THE NOMINATION FOR THE "MADISON WHO'S WHO AMONGST PROFESSIONALS AND EXECUTIVES IN 2007/2008 YEAR THAT THE CRIMINALS DESTROYED THE INTERNET SITES AND PURPORTED TURNED THE AWARD TO THE NAME OF ABOUT TEN ADDISON SURNAMES/LASTNAMES?
(iii) WHETHER OR NOT THE ADDISON IS STILL A GHANAIAN CITIZEN OR OTHERWISE?
(IV)WHETHER OR NOT THE ADDISON IS AMONGST THOSE WHO STOLE AND CONTINUE STEALING MY E-MAILS, LETTERS AND MONEYS IN AMERICA?
THEREAFTER, I HAVE RECEIVED ANSWERS TO THE ABOVE RELATED QUESTIONS THEN I WOULD LIKE ALL GHANAIANS AND AMERICANS TO KNOW THAT ADDISON IS PURPORTED TO HAVE DONE SOMETHING WORTHY OF NOTE IN MARYLAND JUST ONE OF THE STATES OF THE 50 STATES OF AMERICA AND HE HAS NAME.
HOWEVER, BENONY TONY AMEKUDZI STILL HAVE NO NAME IS THAT THE CASE?
THAT I RESPECTFULLY CALL ON ALL TO PAUSE AND REFLECT ABOUT WHAT WE HAVE DONE TOGETHER IN AMERICA, GHANA AND THE WORLD AND TO SINCERELY ASK OURSELVES WHETHER WE HAVE SHOWN GRATEFULNESS AND APPRECIATION TO BENONY TONY AMEKUDZI AND HIS FAMILY?
OR IS IT BECAUSE NONE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO A POLITICAL OFFICE? OR WE CAN HOLD POLITICAL OFFICE HENCE SUPPRESSION OF MY NAME AND THE GOOD WORKS INCLUDING THE "WORD OF WISDOM DURING THE ANNAPOLIS PEACE SUMMIT" THAT I DID.
GOD BLESS GHANA AND AMERICA.
VERY TRULY YOURS,
BENONY TONY AMEKUDZI
