I went to Primary school at Asafo A.M.E. Zion School, middle school at Asem Boys, Tech Secondary School, Ahmadiyya Secondary School, and of course lived at Asafo near Cedi Bar and Asafo Post Office. You can bet your last dollar that yours truly had on many occasions been drawn by the irresistible aromatic scent of Ama Nima's rice to saunter down that alley to soak up on her universally acclaimed cuisine skills. Many a time I will actually lick clean the bowl with my tongue.....it was too good to just wash away.
Maame Nima da yie.......you can gracefully rest assured and proudly write on your tomb stone that you fed a whole generation and a grateful city. We are your children. We love you. Damirefa due! Rest in peace.

I am very touched by the wonderful tributes to Ama Nima, whom I knew very well. Her Aunt, Auntie Araba, was my mum's (Maame Yaa, friend plantain) friend. So I knew her actually as a girl, from the late 1950s.
Auntie Araba's rice was on one side of the street, while directly opposite, on the other side, my mum fried her plantain, If either women were short of leaves(ahaban), or any other stuff, the other would oblige, In fact, Auntie Araba did not pay for my mum's plantain or yam, and my mum did not pay for her rice,
To say I ate Ama Nima's rice would be an understatement, Sometimes, we tasted the stew together in the evening, as it was being prepared for the following morning,
She matured very quickly, and successfully continued the business when Auntie Araba died, She had already served an unique apprenticeship.
I am very sad to hear about her death.
but touched by the wonderful tributes.
May she rest in peace!!

AMA ANIMAH WAS LIKE A SISTER TO ME BECAUSE WE GREW UP TOGETHER AND HAPPENED TO KNOW A LOT ABOUT THEIR FAMILY. AUTIE DIANA,HER MOTHER WHO WAS AFFECTIONATELY CALLED"WOBE DI SEN" ALSO KNOWN AS AUTIE ARABA WAS A STRICT DIDCIPLINARIAN WHO BRING ALL THE AREA KIDS INTO ORDER WHEN ANYONE MISBEHAVE,AND SO LOVING THAT IF YOU PUT YOUR BEST SELF YOU WILL ALSO BE REWARDED WITH "EMMO ASE"WHEN SHE PASSED THE MANTLE TO AMA,SHE ALSO CONTINUED TO DO WHAT "WOBE DI SEN"WAS DOING AND EVEN EXCEEDED EXPECTATION.AMA WAS LOVING, RESPECTFUL AND EAGER TO HELP WHEN THE NEED ARISES BECAUSE OF THAT THERE IS NOT A SINGLE TIME I WILL NOT VISIT HER WHENEVER I GO HOME.I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I LEARNED ABOUT HER DEMISE.AMA REST IN PEACE ANY MAY THE GOOD LORD PROTECT YOUR SOUL.
