I cannot fathom what a new Region will do for Ghana or for those who are asking for it. The whole Ghana, landmass wise,is the size of Ontario Province in Canada. From the highest tip North to the lowest end South is the same distance between Toronto and Montreal and six hours by car. It probably takes 24 hours by car from North to South of Ghana. Movement of goods and services in Ghana is slow only because we have bad roads and not because the distances are far. as far as I am concerned, we do not need any more than five regions in Ghana and certainly not 275 Constituencies. The Government of Ghana spends so much money borrowed money just to pay all these redundant officers and employees who sit for hours doing nothing because there is nothing to do. Why would you want us to add more Regions and subsequently more staff when we cannot even afford to pay those already on Government's payroll.
Let us use the funds to open up the North and you will quickly realize that it doesn't take much time to travel East to West of the Northern Region.

Ex-President Kuffour, and your Son, John Dramani Mahama and the law makers are all aware that, it is impossible to get your own region. Because of your urgent desire to get your own region,Gonjas have been part of fueling tribal conflicts in the north just for onlookers to see them non-peace makers and therefore supports your idea. To be fair enough, the current Dagbon crisis, and Komkombas vrs other tribes crisis are all fueled by the Gonjas. The call for the creation of another region out of the current region is legitimate from several points of view. It is the opinion of several people that two more regions could be created owing to the vastness of the region. Saboba,Cheriponi,Zabzugu and other communities in that enclave could have Yendi as it's regional capital . Besides it even defeats the purpose of creating more constituencies and districts for easy governance by adding more MPs and DCEs , only to expect one regional Minister to effectively run affairs of such a vast expanse of land. I am convinced that several Northern Regional Ministers have come and gone without visiting remote enclaves such Aburumase . It is not an issue of having adequate population to merit a region because there a countries in this world with less than a 50000 citizens. Gov't should be doing itself administrative good to create more regions across the country in pursuit of making its goal of effective decentralization a reality. What good does govt stand to gain by making the poor people of kwame Danso travel all the way to Sunyani when the could easily have Atebubu as their regional capital. We should not allow parochial interest suppress the inevitable development goals that we have to make now than see such development happen in decades to come.

I think the above should educate those who bury their heads in the grass in their mistaken notions about the Volta Region. Southern Volta Region was in the Gold Coast Colony (1851) long before what is now Ashanti Region, Brong Ahafo Region and the three northern regions were brought under British rule. It was NEVER initially under German rule or part of German Togoland.

Don't let us rush into it regret because some of the districts that were created in 2004, 2007 and 2012 for political expediency are really suffering as we speak. I think now our focus should be how to make the northern region economically viable in order to prevent the rural urban migration. This is so because though the northern region is the largest region in terms of land size same can not be said about its population so let's attract the people and by that no one will even ask for it to be created but its creation will come by itself.

Thus the group should suggest a more encompassing name than "Gonjaland Region". Maybe, North West Region will do for that part and North East Region for the other side if the current Northern Region is split straight down through the middle. The threats made by this group is nothing more than a political gimmick aimed at arming the opponents of Mahama. They have really demonstrated that they do not have Gonjaland at heart, only a tool for enemies of the son of Gonjaland.
The most embarassing part of all is the poor argument and distorted historical facts put forward. I wonder if any of the executives who agreed on the content of this threat actually took a minute to do a really check on the implication of this threat and poorly articulated argument to the chances of Gonjaland advancing with this agenda? In my view, this would rather make people more critical and alert about any move by government to do anything about that when Ghana currently has more pressing national issues to deal with, like the Al Qaeda-like opponents who are ready to go any length to destroy the son of Northern Ghana. Mahama is for the good of all Ghanaians, so please do not put him in a situation that would make it virtually impossible to help communities in Northern Ghana. Do not be the enemies for Northern Ghana.
Aside from this, creating a region is not like looking for a cleaning job or a poor illegal immigrant to cheat.

It seems you have a bush thinking when you think that only the southern part of the country deserves development and the Northerner should not make any demand, when your sisters have been carrying loads (Kayayei) and your brothers at sodom and gomora do all those undignified work. What reasons are we talking of, go and visit those areas and see the level of neglect and poverty before you talk of bush thinking. They are right and i will urge them to go further.
They did not advocate for violence the word protest has many meanings and whatever protest they do i'm sure would be peaceful. Just look at the bigger picture, what would you do? when your sisters and brothers are being treated that way? i will not sit by idle whist our daughters are being raped and disrespected worse than slaves in the southern part of the country. They made tangible arguments about their demands, even when ministers were appointed a lot of tribes demanded their tribesmen be given ministerial positions. So they are right. Protest can be voting for a different party or abstaining.

Do you know that populationwise, the Konkombas are the second largest ethnic group in the northern region after the Dagombas? So, why do you think you Gonjas deserve a region more than them? How do you expect the other ethnic groups which you Gonjas have suppressed over the years to come along with you for the creation of a region when you deliberately choose to ethnicize the argument - calling for a Gonja region. Do you realise by that you have effectively dminished and marginalized the Lobis, Vaglas, Safalbas, among others who also call and claim the territories you are referring to as thier home? Why do we always underplay the point of population size in such debates whilst we are seen hyping the issue of landmass? will it no be right that Asante region and the Greater Accra Regions deserve splits based on population size? let's stop some of these issues. Just take a look at some of the newly created constituencies in the country and you will understand the angle I'm coming from.After all are rhere not kayayei fron Upper East and West and indeed from some other regions? the issue does not lie at the heart of the creation of new regions or constituencies but a deliberate concerted efforts between government and citizens of each region to bring development closer to the people. Let's learn to send some our individual investments and expertise back to our respective regions rather than concentrating them in 'choked' Accra and then turn round to blame the government for neglecting some regions

Go and see the standard of life living in about 90% of the region except Tamale and some few areas. Simply because you envy Gonjas you failed in your thinking and resorted to insults.
You must understand that Gonjaland is not populated by only Gonjas so demand is not only for Gonjas but all the other tribes inhabiting land.
From my understanding they are making a demand that any tribe with pride would do instead of the inferiority and slavish mentalities people are displaying in their comments.
In any case you cannot love the president than his own Kinsmen, because when he leaves the seat you will shift your allegiance to the next occupant. As usual stomach politics and sycophancy.
