Why don't you start by setting a very good example.

2). Don't buy any foreign food, stay "domesiticated" and help mother Ghana improve in all aspect of life.
Finally, do you understand globalization? The world is almost one big village now. You see somebody here today and within few hours he or she is in another country. Thus it's about competition, try to do better movies and you'll find other countries running after your works too. If you can't stand the heat, just leave the kitchen. When you used to be a presenter at GBC radio, did you play up to even 20 percent of local Ghanaian music on your program?

Vicky Lee Benton, your type of mentality is the reason why Ghana still lag behind in virtually most things Ghanaians crave for in its foreign versions. Have you spared a thought how Nigerians have overtaken Ghanaians in entertaiment industries to the extent they even contribute 1.6% to their GDP of $510 billion dollars. Many more of you Vicky Lee Benton, with very acute foreign films productions mentality still allowed to make contributions on matters of this nature; this country Ghana will never see any meaningful developments not only in entertainment industry but in all sphere of economic development.

I feel your pain and while i can understand you vehemently would like to protect your industry and improve your bottomline, I really don't agree with you on your protectionism approach.
Ghana is a free country and promotes free trade. So the consumers have every right to pick and choose products and services they want.
How about this?
1. stop playing foreign songs/hiphops/foreign jazz , R&B and just play music by our local musicians, like Amakye Dede, Ampadu , Osibisa, K.K Kabobo , Gyedu Ambolley, Sarkodie, etc
2. Why don't we stop importing shoes and clothes from China, Dubai, US, UK etc and just use made-in-Ghana clothes only; fugu, kente, wax prints, ekoumekoume, taawoto, afro moses etc
3. Why wouldn't ghanaians patronise only made-in-ghana foods and provisions but flood the market with foreign food products?
4. Why wouldn't you advise your industry to sell the ghana-made movies only in ghana and not to ship any to UK,USA,ITALY,CANADA,etc for the almighty dollar. Since those countries already have their own movies and series from their local artists
To cut a long story short, ask the gov't to ban the shipment and selling of ghanaians movies to countries outside Ghana.
Once you are able to achieve that, then hopefully you will earn the sympathy of the gov't to ban other foreign movies or series coming into the country. Remmeber, the TV stations also have to make some $$$.
What you can rather do is to appeal to ghanaians to show more interest and support ghana movies.
Stopping competition is not a solution
The last time I heard , not even president Mahama had the audacity to ban the influx of foreign products. What he did was to appeal to ghanaians to support the local industries by showing more interest in MADE-IN-GHANA products.
It all boils down to the quality of your movies and also human beings want variety. If you think more people are watching Mexican or Chinese series instead of Ghanaian movies, then sit back and think about what is it that make Ghanaians like watching those series instead of your movies and try to adapt and change the content and quality of your movies.
I know a lot of people are tired of all the ABEYISEM AND JUJU movies you produce and R-rated movies that is so distasteful that parents can't watch movies at home with their kids any more.
if you can't beat them , join them.

I live in Britain and there's no way they will be showing these t.novelas especially, prime time tv. What they do is sell airtime/ channel to foreign programs where they are at liberty to show programmes of their interest. I know ppl really do enjoy such shows but in hindsight, it is to the detriment of our local industry. I bet these Mexicans are not watching ghanaian movies hence promoting it. So why should we? That being said, our movie industry also better sit up and come up something that will better appeal to gh and the world at large.
