pepeni like all evil men in history is saying its God who gave him victory , Hitler , Stalin and all the intrinsically evil men including Satan also claimed the same. pepeni has put only his own Muslim pepefuo in charge of all key aspects of the nation and their main agenda is to recolonize the Akans so we are his slaves and servants . he has deceitfully used and abused the so called democratic process to achieve this. he is not interested in the welfare of the majority but to push into further poverty and misery the great nations of Akan so that his dimwitted pepeni idiots can handle things easier. today we are now in a feudal middle ages mentality era with no water , electricity or decent wages . any Akan who wishes to do anything good for his own people is frustrated bullied and mobbed by the state and called the worst of names if not thrown outright in jail or killed. championing his cause are the ayigbe who have mastered the art of the hatred of the Akans and together with the agenda of hegemony and chauvinism succeeded in making the lives of most Akans unbearable . let them know God is on our side and we shall win our freedom sooner than they think, long live the republic of Akan

Thanks for reading and all the comments. Unfortunately, I am unable to respond to some of the comments individually.
I will like to clear some misconceptions. First, let me put on record that I did not post this article because I wrote a similar one regarding Nana Akufo-Addo's comments. I did so purely because the President's statement had very serious constitutional implications. I have been proven right by the warning given by the Presiding Justice at today's Supreme Court hearing and the fact that he did include the President of the Republic.
Second, I also believe in the Almighty God. However, I also believe that the same God created us in his/her own image and gave us the power and the ability to reason, question and find solutions to the challenges in life. It is simply not enough to claim that anything and everything is by God. That is part of the poverty, lack of development, corruption, want, diseases, etc in Ghana and most developing countries. This is because when one is poor, it is because God made him or her poor but not the looting by our leaders and people in positions of trust. When someone is rich, questions are not asked about the sources of his or her wealth but it's because God created him rich, when in reality, that individual is stealing from the poor people to enrich him/herself.
If Ghana continues to think, act and believe in and attribute anything and everything to God, the country and the majority of the people will continue to wallow in poverty till thy kingdom come whilst the few will continue to loot and live in opulence forever. This "Fama Nyame" thing must stop.

In most democratic Nations, the constitution talks about separation of State and Church, but I am yet to see or hear where the constitution bans FAITH in most of these democratic Nations. So the fact that someone like Mahama becomes the leader of the Nation does not mean he has to abandon his FAITH. It is only in the minds of the educated African, who believes that our leaders should be denied of the same rights of freedom, or freedom of association and other rights, they themselves have sworn to uphold, defend and protect at all cost. I am writing this not as a Mahama's supporter but as Christian who feels that my faith or religion is being bashed by authors who clueless about my faith or belief and yet wants to write about it.
I refused to join your first article about Akufo, because I thought it was unnecessary, unproductive and unwanted. While leaders are not allowed to make National decisions based on their beliefs or faith, they are allowed to talk about their faith at their own private time. And therefore, Akufo was right when he talked about God being on his side or whatever, and certainly Mahama is right when he talks about God helping him to win the election. This has nothing, again, nothing whatsoever with any decision he has made for the people and therefore has not broken any laws of the land gone or against the constitution.
On Ghanaweb, most writers have found it necessary to churn out articles without even doing a research on what they are writing on. Most writers are just write to play with the heightened tribal and political sensibilities of the forumers or bloggers. And this is what I found about this article. If the author has done a research on Bible and authorities in power, he would have known that Mahama is not saying anything out of ordinary or contrary to his beliefs or what the Bible says about how Kings or Authorities are enthroned or chosen by their God. You might not believe it, but he is not forcing anyone to believe it; it is about his faith. So choose to believe it or not but please, don't accused him of committing crime against the State.
This question was thrown to Mahama about his beliefs. So if the writer's question -MAHAMA, DOES GOD ORDAINED PRESIDENTS- is answered absolutely YES, and Mahama can back it up with facts from his Bible, what will the writer say then...
Dan 2:21 "And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up kings: he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
Job 12:18 "He strips away the authority of kings to punish and puts them in prison clothes instead.
Psalms 75:6-7.There is no power on earth that can make a person important. God is the judge. He decides who will be important. He lifts one person up and brings another down.
Jer 27:5: By my great power and outstretched arm, I have made the earth and the people and animals that are on it. I can give it to anyone I please.
Daniel 4:17:Holy angels announced this punishment so that all the people on earth may know that God Most High rules over human kingdoms. God gives those kingdoms to whoever he wants, and he chooses humble people to rule them.
ON and ON and ON and ON.....
What will be the next question from this author? I guess he is going to say that he it is against the constitution, but from what I have written so far, there is no where he has broken any law. He went to church as a private citizen and he has the right to talk about the things that has happened in his life. Being chosen as President of the Nation is part of his life. Capiche.
And then the next question is, how is it then that the decision is being challenged in the courts? Is this a question that should even be asked? How many landlords in Ghana who have not fought against people trying to take their lands? How many women have not fought against another women who have tried to take away their husbands even though they have gone to church to bless their marriage. Why was even the Son of Man, Jesus sent to the cross to be crucified? Do you see any sense in that question? Who said that the fact that God has blessed you with something, it means you can't be challenged or have difficulty in receiving the blessing. May be Mahama knows something about what happened to Daniel in Chap 10:12-13 "Then he said, "Don't be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer. But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia" See, Christians know something about "delayed prayers," they know that what is due them could be delayed but nevertheless, it will surely come to pass.
However, let us not be carried away- because the Bible does not say that every KING or Authority is by GOD...
Hosea 8:4 says ""They have set up kings, but not by me; they have made princes, and I knew it not; of their silver and gold have they made them idols that they may be cut off."
So there is nothing wrong for Mahama to believe that he was ordained by God and Akufo believe that he too was predestined to rule Ghana. The supreme Court will settle that. And even after that- anyone has the right to believe what he wants, Mr. Writer.

Staying In The Frying Pan…
The majority of Ghanaian voters, wisely or unwisely (only time will tell), have decided to stay in the frying pan of the NDC, albeit with a new, and hopefully, a better chef in charge; rather than attempt to jump from it and end up in the fiery inferno an obviously unreformed and unrepentant NPP might turn out to be. Yes, one must allow for the possibility that, regardless of allegations of drugs use or leaving Oxford under still cloudy conditions and all that “all-die-be-die”, “yen Akanfo” bravado nonsense in furtherance of the Akan Agenda launched by JB Danquah decades ago, and ably exploited by Busia and the PP in 1969 - posited on a presumed “Akan” “majoritifo” (always an “Asante” or an Akyem) that must “rule by law” and “democratically” the “minoritifo,” often defined as “Ewe” - (I don’t know where they get their census data from), Nana could have been something else in office, in an attempt to leave a clean and laudable legacy, after having had it all and done that! But that's all water going under the bridge now, as I don’t believe that the ongoing challenge the NPP is mounting against the election results will lead to the overturning of the announced verdict. If they could not clearly defeat a fragmented and very fractious NDC at the polls and expect the Supreme Court, which former President Kufuor had stuffed with pro-NPP judges sympathetic to his agenda to nail Tsatsu Tsikata, to hand over the Presidency to them with one of their dubious decisions, they better think twice. Ghanaians have been suffering enough gargantuan financial losses thanks to our heavily compromised and unlearned judges who think they are agents of vested interests, not the protectors of the rights of the tax payers or electorate who pay their salaries!
For one, I am much baffled by their (NPP) claims, just as I am confused with the handling of the Waterville Mafioso orchestrated Woyome case as something Woyome single-handedly engineered and executed for his personal benefit by even the dim-wit opponents of the NDC. This, in spite of Woyome himself issuing a statement specifying how the booty was shared, with Waterville even taking him to court for taking too much for his “expenses”!
Anyway, digression aside, all the political parties got the same Blue or Red Print or whatever results prints from the polling and collation centres and by now, one would have expected at least someone to corroborate the allegations made by the NPP. Or, there is a deadly conspiracy of silence by the other parties in collusion with the NDC and the EC to cheat the NPP of its prematurely declared victory by my former Mensah Sarbah “Okponglo” roommate, Sir John? I think it’d be a waste of time indulging in speculative analysis as to what might have happened, in the absence of any hard facts from the NPP. But since writing the foregoing, the CPP Chairwoman Samia Nkrumah had issued a statement in which she was silent on the allegations of cheating. I excoriated her for the singular irrelevancy of the CPP in even addressing the most pressing and critical issue facing us at the moment. The PPP too had issued a statement which I wrote off as a load of bollocks, for its bloody-minded vacuity. I think I have to find time to deal with the pathetic leaders of the Nkrumahist tradition derived parties who have managed to worked themselves into delusional nincompoops and comic reliefs in the electoral process in Ghana.
No doubt, with the NDC retained in power with a different President whose dynamism as Vice to the late Mills made him appear more presidential than the late President, we should expect a more pro-active rule. But many Ghanaians, especially the about 5-10% floating voters, I believe, gauging from conversations with many people, did not vote for him in order to allow business to proceed as usual. They chose what they consider the lesser of two devils, with an internal exorcist in the person of Rawlings, in spite of having worked himself into an embarrassing, old albatross that thinks he is a dragon, always breathing fire and brimstone in the bid to get rid of the devil within. So, they think there is some hope for us in the hands of the NDC under affable President Mahama, who should not be punished for the obvious failings of the late President Mills.
And if his actions in response to reported cases of abuse of office since being sworn in as President were not just knee-jerk reactions and gimmicks in the heat of the elections, then we hope to see a more serious handling of the endemic corruption and lawlessness in and under the outgoing regime. Even though he was an integral part of the outgoing regime, we are aware that he was at the receiving end of the barbs of the “babies with sharp teeth,” and the “evil dwarfs” were closing in on him too, and so should know what was unwholesome in the previous regime. At least, one garrulous kingpin, Koku Anyidoho, has since publicly confessed a new found humility since JM assumed the Presidency.
Of course, having shown us that he also knew how to bring the pork home to his own people through the almost total amassing of those scholarships to study abroad for candidates from northern Ghana, some of them clearly unjustified - whatever is the porous justification - his hands are not so clean. For, some of us are not going to rest on our oars in combating the lawlessness and the corruption that has become characteristic of our body politic. President Mahama should therefore not expect a rosy time in office if he expects business to continue as usual once he is sworn in. And sworn in, he’d be, whatever the NPP does. I hope they (NPPians) have not become delusional like my ex-Nkrumahist comrades.
Just like many people who will be presenting their Christmas lists and New Year wishes to President Mahama, I would like to present him with my own list. I don’t have any hamper for him. It was a tough year so I have instituted an austerity.
Paramount to me is the need to curb drastically the endemic corruption and lawlessness in the country. I had already sent out an open letter to him on a more personal issue which is awaiting attention. I certainly therefore do not expect him to allow the continuation of the use of the Police by one side in a dispute, whether it is a chieftaincy or debt fracas, to harass and abuse the freedom and rights of the other party. And I certainly do not expect the Police, the Customs and Excise personnel and public officials, to continue the graft they presently indulge in with reckless abandon without taking any punitive action against the recalcitrant elements on the public’s payroll.
Second on my list is bringing out the social in the claimed social democracy of the NDC. This is what shall create the industries and the jobs which are critically needed in the country. With the Rawlings factor, which is undoubtedly populist and right-wing, drown, we expect to see unfolding the left of centre which represents the Nkrumahist tradition the NDC has clearly captured. I personally do not expect much in that direction but the NDC must wake up to the fact that even the NPP in office was more to the left in its socio-economic policies than them, even though the political rhetoric of the NPP is right-wing, market oriented, private enterprise and property grabbing in practice, by the way!
Thirdly, curb the deadly carnage on our roads. Rein in the police who allow decrepit vehicles to ply our roads and ignore bad driving for what bribes they collect from drivers. This is legalised manslaughter on our roads must be stopped!
Fourthly, for heaven’s sake! Ghana is a secular state, not a Christian nation! Keep it as such and leave that God, God, God nonsense which you yourself is a cheerleader, following on the heels of the TB Joshua mesmerised late President Mills, out of the Castle! Some of us who have mentally evolved cosmologically into the scientific, rational world order, leaving behind us the Weberian, primitive substantive rationalisations of our ancestors, find it most annoying and depressing the way God is invoked by pundits of both the NDC and NPP and their fake pastor hirelings in their dubious pursuit of political power. If there is indeed hell, we all know that all of them will burn at its fieriest corner one day, anyway.
Lastly but not the least, review the horrendously unfavourable laws, regulations and intended bill governing the nascent oil sector as a matter of urgency. Ghana is no longer a beggar in the oil sector and we do not need any enticing packages to bring the investors in. They are the ones begging and bribing to come in. Review the laws and the bill or be damned forever! It is your legacy and it is yours to do what you wish it to be after all!
I wish all Ghanaians a Happy New Year! May your frying pan turn into a rose garden!

Ata Kofi, did we hear Akuffo Addo/NPP saying the battle (2012 elections) was the Lord's and went to all corners of Ghana organizing vigils, all nights and prayer camps? Would Akuffo Addo have been ordained by God if he had won the 2012 presidency, given the fact that he/NPP that election as the Lord's? To start with,I think it is unfair to assume that because the president swore an oath to protect the constitution means that when he is in church he should not give praise to what God had done in his life!To assume that will be a fallacy. This is a man who came from no where and within a short time had won an election against the odds.He found himself within a short time the president of Ghana as a result of the death of the substantive president and within four months the people of Ghana confirmed him as the substantive president. If he should say in his church that this sudden change though in unfortunate circumstances was due to God's will where has he breached the constitution? I personally see no conflict with that statement and the oath he took to defend the constitution.
American leaders always end their speeches with God bless you and God bless America would you say the contravenes the American constitution? No because the constitutions, whether in Ghana or abroad generally allow for freedom of religion and expression so I would say the president was giving credence to a constitutional right.
As a I said I like your write ups and I am impressed with most of them. However this particular one was a bit over the top.I understand it was meant to balance your earlier observation on the same topic but it seems to me to be an over kill.

Good write-up, Kofi,
The most irritating aspect of it all is that these politicians who invoke the name of God at every turn, are not even faithful to the God they claim to worship. Fortunately, the Lord has given us a long rope in the blood of Christ Jesus otherwise most of them would end up like Ananias and Saphira or Nebucchadnezzar!
Mahama as Vice President and head of the Economic Unit of the Mills government, supervised the dubious aircraft purchases, the dolling out of millions to crooks for doing absolutely nothing for Mother Ghana. Then there is the "Nkomfem/tree planting saga," and many more. How can a man like that be ordained by God to rule a country?
One thing is sure though. God is not mocked and they will all reap what they sow.
Kutu Acheampong was doing fine until some dubious Bahai woman came to Accra and made a bogus prophecy that "God had ordained him to rule for a long time." A few weeks later, one ignorant chief, now dead, announced that Acheampong should rule for twenty years. Suddenly Ghanaian chiefs were tripping over each other to congratulate Aceheampong and urge him to rule for twenty years or more.
That is what culminated in the UNIGOV fraud, and the rest the sages say, is history. Unfortunately we do not seem to learn. May be this is the beginning of the end of Mahama. "Those the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad." indeed.

From a religious point of view, we call God's name, invoke His name for favors. That is luck, I am referring to, and who does not call His name to shower blessing and luck on him or her? People use His name always, unless you are an atheist, and do not believe in the wonders of the lord.
We have to delineate this type of providence that borders on faith and religion. They are philosophical issues and you are not ripe for debate and discussion in this sensitive area, you do not even roll the dice.

We queue to vote to elect one of us as a leader and what has God got to do with that?
When we talk about a president, we should stop trying to put God in the middle of it. In the Biblical times where the people of Israel are under the watchful eyes of the Creator, those days are gone with the wind.
Nobody can tell me that God will force people to elect a leader who will kill, maim and do whatever under his power to cause untold hardship on people under his care.
Our attempt to put God in the middle of everything that we do, is the root cause of our inability to tell truth and rule with the rule of law.
God this, God that, is destroying Ghana and the earlier we put a stop to that the better it will for us.
Our leaders, upon taken office, use the Bible to take the oath by saying that they will tell the truth nothing but the truth and what do we see?
God does not ordain presidents or any leader whatsoever in the sense that TRUTH had gone missing in todays world and that alone is a testament that our leaders are the clutches of some unknown entity whose presence is a curse on us.
Look at Mahama, the man is just hallucinating. He us surrounded by "RAT-LIKE" humans and their actions is a clear indication that God will never choose a man like Mahama to lead the good people of Ghana.
The time for us to put a stop of invoking God's name in anything that we do because we hate to tell the truth and that alone disqualify us from being under the watchful eyes of the All Seer.

All local bred charlatans, especially those of the priestly fraternity and lately politicians have one thing in common. They know the poor and the least educated among us are helplessly susceptible to deception. Most ghanaians are very religious and superstitious at the same time.94.5 % of Gallup poll respondents answered yes when the question was asked : "Is religion very important in your daily life?".
We're very unscientific. When we can't find the answers and the numbers don't add up we turn to superstition and christianity attributing almost every daily occurence as the work of powerful unseen forces. The mere mention of God's name opens doors and windows to the pockets, hearts and minds of most ghanaians.
The proliferation of religion did not have much effect on political activity until 2008 when the NDC seeking some legitimacy and added value to Mills presidency referred to the President as "Asomdweehene" and "God's anointed President." Those gaudy claims did very little to project Mills public image as his administration wallowed in the trough of political invective .As if that was not enough they got entangled in the web of massive corruption. The 'Asomdweehene' image was at odds with his administration's addiction to invective and the political and financial chicanery.
Mahama is repeating the mistake of Mills.God does not ordain presidents. If He did our system of government would not be called a democracy but a Theocracy and Ghana would not be in the mess galore we find ourselves in. Isn't this the sort of thing that earned the previous Mills administration such vicious public opprobrium?
I think it's a sign of weakness when presidents try to be uppity with celestial titles and feign Divine connections. If the president is on the cutting edge of issues that bother the people he does not need to cloak himself in any falsehood.
It's sacrilegious for Mahama to claim he was ordained by God to be our President because anything that goes wrong in his presidency or anything that he does wrong must be blamed on God. "God is not man that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good." Numbers 23:19 God does not ordain Presidents, not even the Pope.

Yes, I will agree on that one if now and then presidents are using God's name to assuage tensions and uprisings here and there. Some people will view that as coming across as weak. Presidents should be able to hold the bull by the horns without necessarily alluding to the mention of His name. After all, you do not even have to mention His name in vain.
Once committed and endowed with the necessary qualities and talents that Presidents do have, it would be prudent to allow that play out in your administration. That is the reason why governance is not a one man show but a concerted effort.
That said, I rest to see when the President will "inappropriately" use God's name if not in Church setting or delivering a speech bordering on religion, philosophy or something else that requires legitimately the use of HIS name.
that is very debatable from an angle of mentioning God's name all the time

Kofi thanks for coming out to condemn the president for his persistent use of God's name to confuse ghanaians any time he mounts a podium around the country. This president wants to use God's name to camouflage all the evil deeds they are committing against ghanaians. If this president really believes in God he will not have single handedly caused so much financial loss to ghana, with regards to the South Korean STX DEAL and the Brazil Embraer Planes purchase.Mahamma thinks ghanaians are fools because there are so much illiteracyin the country. He also seem to think that because nobody is talking about it ghanaians have forgotten about it, but he should not forget the Akan adage; enkye nkye biara wonemere].The president can ran but he can never hide when the time comes

Mahama was indeed ordained by God to occupy the biggest office in Ghanaland.Anyone with an issue on that needs to go back to Togo,Burkina Faso or Cote de Ivoire.
Your bloody NPP covered their campaign vehicles with bible quotations, yet you fools dont even believe in the bible! It is good that discerning Ghanaians rocognised your 419 scam quickly and voted NDC.
