1. Don't you dare compare the Mighty United States of America to this minute experiment called Ghana.
2. Even in America, there are limitations to the Freedoms granted citizens
3. In America, citizens appreciate and respect their rights, by behaving like civilized law abiding citizens.
4. In America, it is almost impossible for the military to stage a coup d'état.
It is your arrogance and pompous nature, that has compelled you to compile such garbage as though it is some sort of intellectual discourse. I am a 100% certain that you Paa Kow, has on numerous occasions in Accra engaged in illegal activity but believe you are above the law and should get away with it, or you know too darn well that Ghana is such a lawless society, you could very well get away with all sorts of law breaking activities.
Policing a civilized society involves several strategies. Even if you have the right to demonstrate, the Law Enforcement department has every right and power to halt your activities, if they suspect it would cause greater harm to a greater portion of society. I draw further analogies to your debunk your twisted reason above, but I give up...
You're just a loud mouthed disgruntled antagonist from the other side of the aisle PERIOD!!!

The Police did not ban demonstrations in Ghana. The Police ONLY TEMPORARILY banned all demonstrations until the SC rules on the election petition. Remember that during the Ghana@50 celebrations, the same police service prevented people from demonstrating because the situation was likely to lead to chaos. Thank God, this writer mentioned peaceful demonstrations. Thus, in the professional judgment of the police, if a demonstration is unlikely to be peaceful, the police can ban it. Learn to be law-abiding and never create a wrong impression of a rightful situation.

In Ghana, we demonstrate to protest 'lack of good roads' for instance, by first burning the only existing asphaltic road then turn round tomorrow to demand a repairvof same or a new one; this is a typical case of onr step fotward, two backwards. We need to be responsible!

Okoe you are right. But our friend should know that Ghana Police does not ban demonstration. Notifying the police by law is not for police to distribute toffee or water! It is to enable them protect life(including protesters & non protesters) and property as well as free flow of traffick! If the police are not able to in view of timing they advise protesters to re-schedule or advise on routes to take. If protesters will not cooperate and re-schedule, etc,so the national interest should be compromised? And where does it say so in the constitution?

I think what Paa Kow is commiunicating is clear and make sense. I can undersstand where Paa Kow is coming from and the message he is conveying. I want to put it in another perspective for these schizophrenic commentators to get the point across. From the onset after the Ghanaian independence, the police and the military were used to intimidate ghanaians who staged demonstration to carry their message to the Kwame Nkrumah's detention hunger. When Kwame Nkrumah dragged the "mate me ho" to the detention in chains and nailed them to the wall, it was the police that went the length and breath of Ghana to deliver the "mate me ho" people for Nkruma to nail in the prison.
When Nkrumah was overthrown, it was the same police ZOMBIS that rounded the Nkruma ministers up to be placed in detentions. Can you tell me that the police did not know that the detention was deterimental to the health of these poor "mate me ho" or the Kwame Nkrumah ministers?
What about when the late General Acheampong used the police to brutally assulted Ghanaian citizens who were not in favour of Uniongov. When the ghanaian citizens demonstrated, they got the hell out of them whalloped by the Zombis. Do you think that the police were not aware that they were doing the master say I must do the do thing?
What about when JJ Rawlings used the police to rub ghanaian traders of their daily bread simply because JJ has ordered it? He promised to make the rich people and the poor people be the same. Wah he able to do so, NO. Did the police brutally assulted traders simply because Rawlings has ordered it, YES Did the police used their common sense which even goats on the streets possesses, NO. Did Rawlings achieved his aim after all the brutalities and atrocities on the poor well to do Ghanains??, NO. Has any police ever regreted being used as an instrument to obstract democracy/justice???? No
The point I am trying to make here the Ghana police force are zombis. They do not use their brains to think. They only act to siut the ruling government. But it usually hurt the government they are trying to help in the long round.
We all know that if these people are allowed to demonstrate, the government will reconsider their decision and look into the circumstances which led to the demonstration and effect some meaningful change that will result in positive outcome for the government. But because of the Zombi O Zombi thing, the police will not think. I think that the police education level is still low. They do not understand demonstration and how it pave the way to enhance democracy to work. In the end, the government they are protectin or working for always suffer the consequences as in the case of Nkruma, Acheampong, Rawlings and the nantwie nua John Mahama. You wait and seeeee........

DEMONSTRATIONS ARE A NORM IN LAW ABIDING CIVILISED SOCIETIES!!!! UNFOFTUNATELY, GHANA DOES NOT FALL INTO THAT CATEGORY. TO ALLOW OPPOSING FACTIONS TO HOLD A 'PEACEFUL' DEMONSTRATION ( I am inclined to believe in your case - after the judgement) is tantamount to allowing one faction to carry MATCHES & the other, PETROL and sit back with the hope of a 'PARTY IN THE PARK'.
JUST LOOK AT OUR SO CALLED DEMOCRACY AND YOU WILL SOON SEE THE LEVEL OF STUPIDITY & IGNORANCE DISPLAYED BY -ESPECIALLY - OUR SO CALLED POLITICIANS WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO KNOW BETTER!!!
We do not UNDERSTAND DEMOCRACY - PERIOD!!! Ghanaians have come to believe that DEMOCRACY is the FREEDOM to OPEN THEIR MOUTH & SPEW OUT GARBAGE AND GET AWAY WITH IT. I FEEL SICK WATHCING MORNING TV WITH THESE CLOWNS (calling themselves POLITICIANS) making a mockery of each other.
WE have a very long way to go. ALL THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES ARE CORRUPT, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE EQUALLY THE SAME, THERE IS ABDJECT POVERTY YET WE HAVE OFFICIANS WHO ARE FILTHY RICH, A DEPLORABLE MEDICAL CARE FOR THE POPULATION YET GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE FLOWN TO THE UNITES STATES, EUROPE AHD SOUTH AFRICA FOR TREATMENT.
WHAT WE NEED IN GHANA TODAY IS A PEOPLES' UPRISING LIKE THE 1917 BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION - CAPTURE ALL THOSE WHO HAVE LOOTED OUR NATIONAL ASSETS - CHOP OFF THEIR HEADS SO WE CAN START AFRESH.
IT CAN HAPPEN. FAR TOO MANY GHANAIANS HAVE BEEN REDUCED TO BEGGING FOR THEIR DAILY LIVES.
