Let`s not belittle Kwarteng`s useful effort in drawing our attention to these 'home-grown' scholars who are making important contributions to humankind, particularly, our part of the globe!

Ebenezer Adjei,
Don't worry, more American profiles are coming your way. You can write about others while I do my part.
In fact, that should make it easier for me. I will want people like you to help me out.Don't you think it's fun using your leisure hours to write about people the world loves, adores---people whose lives are making others better?
Anyway, I love doing this. I do this for pleasure, you know, Mr. Ebenezer Adjei. What about you? I don't want to be writing about NDC/NPP, prostitution and armed robbery, cheap gossip, mosquitoes and malaria, people shitting on the beach, etc., in Ghana. Other good and accomplshed writers are doing this on Ghanaweb.
Moreober, I have a long list too. I don't need your list. I hope you know not every Ghanaian scholar in the US, or anywhere for that matter, is as good as you think. In that case, work on your list as I work on mine.
Finally,I have a long list of African scientists, engineers, and scientists (in Africa and outside Africa) working and doing great things for the world. Ghanaweb editor has specifically asked me to write about Ghanaians or issues directly affecting Ghana. Write to him/her, Ghanaweb editor, and ask him about this. Do mention my name.
Besides, I have met many of them personally, either through friends or conferences in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. To tell you the truth, I have a network of friends including editors of journals, chairs of departments, presidents of think tanks, etc., who coordinate their research work with many of these individuals (don't take this as a boast, I am very inquisitive).
For example, I have read all the important works of Dr. Stephen Hawking (string theory), but it was different when I attended a conference in New York where he discussed his work. There so many things he said which you could not get in his book. And you know why? Because the general reader may be intimidated by or possibly fail to grasp scientific complexities, editors and publishers work with him to simply his writings. This involves removing difficult scientific concepts and mathematical details from his books. Yet I know of readers who still complain about his books, saying they are too difficult to read!
Some of these friends of mine invite these scientists, engineers, scientists,to share their research findings with the American public. When I am not able to attend, my good friend, I get transcripts of their original presentations, some of which in my profiles.
But not all of them have made significant impact on the world as those I have already profiled and I am yet to profile. And not everyone knows about Dr. Yaw Nyarko intimately and about his achievements.
You are not aware of how readers have privately written to me to thank me for exposing these creative individuals to the reading public.
Some of these individuals, like you, have also read about Dr. Yaw Nyarko but still write to tell me to reveal more about his work to the reading public, because, unlike you, they know that not every reader is intimately familiar with Yaw Nyarko and his impactful work.
To give you one good example: One reader who goes by the moniker KK on Ghanaweb has read about Dr. Victor Lawrence (google Dr. Thomas Mensah and his Ghanaweb profile). Another reader Tekonline.org and I have mentioned Dr. Lawrence's name in relation to the profile on Dr. Thomas Mensah (fiber optics), yet KK asked Tekonline.org and I to profile Dr. Lawrence on Ghanaweb as the profiler of Dr. Thomas Mensah has done, rather than merely commenting on him.
I knew Dr. Victor Lawrence and his important work by then when KK asked us to profile him. That was when I decided to profile Dr. Victor Lawrence on Ghanaweb.
Another example: There are many individuals in the world who know Dr. Molefi Kete Asante and his work. Yet my profile on him somehow ended up on some Nigerian media outlets.
As a result, one of Nigeria's mainstream satellite televisions read my essays about him and gave him a long-distance interview in which viewers called in from all over Nigeria with questions.
As of this writing, Ghana's TV3 have worked with me to have Dr. Nyarko and Dr. Victor Larwrence interviwed. Dr. Yaw Nyarko will be interwvied on TV3 when he goes to Ghana. I can give you the date when you wtite to me.
In fact, the poduction manager who wrote to me to contact these scholars on TV3's behalf read English and Sociology at Legon. She is widely read, personally know many important Ghanaian scientists, engineers, and scholars all over the world, interviwed Dr. Ave Kludze (NASA), Hermann Chinery-Hesse, etc. But she has not heard of Yaw Nyarko or Victor Lawrence. Finally, we were working on this until TV3 let go of TV3's Mrs. Mary Ann Acolatse. She and I communicated briefly through one of her production managers.
Many readers have even gone ahead to encourage me to do more of these kinds of writings (send me an email--franciskkwarteng@yahoo.com--and I shall share some of these intimate details with you).
Furthermore, reading about somebody is not nearly as important and effective as reading about him/her, intimately knowing him/her as a person, and practically acquainting oneself with his/her work. This is what I call common-sense or true education.
Plus, not everyone has visited the world-famous institutions he directs to learn what he and other international scholars are doing to help the world. This is the difference between you and I.
Furthermore, common sense has also taught me that reading is not everything. Some ideas are kept from the public because of reasons of national security, etc. But you may "know" some of these secrets if you have the right contacs.
In other words, I just don't read. In fact, I go beyond your simplistic method of reading. Get to understand that reading does not reveal everything. I have visited them, those I have profiled profile, to acquaint myself with their work when time allowed. I do this because I don't want to read something, write abou them, only to find out that what
I have written about them do not confirm what they actually perform in laboratories, classrooms, etc. This is why I don't send in my series in one bulk to editors. Sometimes we write back and forth, the ones I profile and I, just to have my facts right.
Can you do me a favor? Why don't you skip materials you are already familiar with?
Can I ask you for another favor? Since you have read about Yaw Nyarko, why don't you fill in on those ideas about Yaw Nyarko which I may have possibly excluded in the profile?
Ebeneer Adjei, more of these kinds of writings, like I said before, are coming your way. Close your eyes when you see them. Actually, part three is already written. I want to let you know in advance so that you don't mistakenly read. I am not so wicked as to make you blind. Are you an editor for Ghanaweb?
Finally, are you relative of Dr. Ebenezer Ako-Adjei, one of the guys who later betrayed Kwame Nkrumah? I am sorry if the association is wrong! I am only human.
Let me give you one good advice: Let me know which scholars, engineers, and scientists you will be working on so that our works don't overlap. In that case, we can exhaust the list in the shortest possible time. Overlook my bad English as you read this.
Good bye.

Dear Kuroyimuns3m,
You critical comments here serve as good summary of what we are all capable of doing as human beings.
In fact, not only am I raising these issues because I have nothing important to do, friends, I am raising them because I want us to use the education we recieve to better society.
I also want to tell my readers that, as individuals, we are capable of positive, great things. I don't want to part of the ethnocentric concerts which go on Ghanaweb all the time.
This is why the examples I have chosen to use in my essays--Ave Kludze, Ashitey Trebi-Ollenu, Victor Lawrence, Yaw Nyarko, Ama Mazama, Molefi Kete Asante, etc,. all come from different ethnic backgroounds. I am a strong believer in diversity and creative colloboration. I don't care if the person is Ewe, Akan, Dagomba, etc. All I care about is the creativity of the individual and what this creativity is doing solving real problems.
Kuroyimuns3m, your summary captures my reaons for writing these essays. Unfortunatley, not everyone sees what you and I see. But I am happy that for every essay I put out here I get an intelligent person like you who critically sees "good" in positive things.
Thanks for reading our essays and sharing your positive views with us. This tells us to do more of these writings. Part lll is already written. We hope you will read it and critique it.
We cherish readers of your critical caliber.
Thanks.

Hello Brother Mark (UK),
Good day Mark (UK).
Every insult I get tells me to do more profiles on our great men and women who are helping humanity. Therefore, I shall send Koffio part three of my profile on Dr. Yaw Nyarko.
Mark (UK), I am used to these insults and, for this reason, alone, I shall do more of these profiles.
Telling me I am an idiot does not destroy the fact that Dr. Yaw Nyarko is an intelligent person. His immense contributions to science is helping us all, including Koffio.
Anyway, Mark (UK), thanks for your wisdom. Part three is coming. I hope you read it and share your constructive criticism of it with us.
Guess what? Insults can be turned into positives. I hope to use Koffio's insults to do one more profile. Another insult from him/her will mean another profile.
That's, 10 insultls from Koffio and 10 profiles I will do. Readers like Koffio drive us to do more positive things on this forum. Besides, insults don't kill. They are not live bullets. In fact, not every live bullet kills. Therefore, I am safe here drafting more positive write-ups.
Take care, Mark (UK).

I have always had problems with most of our intellectuals. Some of them even use their intellect to bully innocent people. Is lamentable that they acquire titles to sit in office, bully people n perpetuate mendacity n propaganda to promote their own personal aggrandizement at the detriment of the poor, innocent n the marginalised. This is dangerous n God is watching. But for those who are doing well like Dr Quartey of ISSER, Legon we say continue the good works n God will bless your good works.
