The question is, why he couldn't uplifted joy news to be like bbc. It would be happier if the news tittled red "JOY NEWS- FOCUS ON AFRICA" that would being an unpresidented achievement for Dumor that desire state burial. He doesn't deserve state burial in Ghana, becouse he uses other state media to made his name instead if using Ghana media.(JOY FM NEWS).

The late Komla Dumor may be all what you have said of him and he was a real inspiration for Ghanaian youth. His death is a loss not only for the immediate family but for Ghanaians who would bask in the "glory" of their fellow countryman working in BBC.
But if we give Komla Dumor a state funeral, what, EXACTLY, shall we be honouring him for? The answer, when I rack my brain, is not because he was a good broadcaster or that he was a role model for the youth, but for the MERE fact that he worked for the BBC. Should any Ghanaian who works for the BBC and happens to have the misfortune of dying in mid-life be given a state funeral? Should he also have been given a state funeral if he were working for CNN? What about for AlJazzera? Should he be given a state funeral if he still had been working for Joyfm when he died?
These days, working for BBC is NO LONGER A BIG DEAL!!! BBC is just one of many mainstream medias (msm) available these days and it is no longer the best (or only best).
What kind of a nation are we where a person becomes a national hero deserving of state burial ONLY BECAUSE HE HAS READ THE NEWS ON BBC!!!
State burials are very involved things - laying in state at a prominent place in the national colours for the whole nation to pay their respects. The police standing guard, a national guard by the military, guns of salute, the presence of the head of state and top government functionaries, the whole nation stopping for a few minutes, etc with everything being telecast live on state media.
And when Komla is being carried away to his final resting place, and someone asks: Who was he that he is being honoured so much?
The answer will be: he was somebody who read the news on BBC!
Q: And what else was he?
A: Well, he was a descent guy but his great achievement was that - he read the news on BBC!
Let us mourn Komla and sorrow over his death but let us keep things in perspective. Are we a nation in need of heroes????

I didn't know Komla and never met him, except seeing him on BBC TV. He was a good presenter and posed relevant and meaningful questions to his guests. He was exceptionally good at his craft, and I felt proud as a Ghanaian watching him. I have read and heard that he was by nature a humble, self-effacing man of modest disposition, perpetually smiling and an extremely nice guy. That's why I believe that he would be greatly embarrassed and even shocked by the extraordinarily amount of encomiums heaped upon him following his untimely death. Some of our countrymen have really gone overboard in their tributes to Komla, prescribing dizzying celestial accomplishments to him; some comparing him to Nelson Mandela and Bob Marley, etc. All said and done, Komla was a BBC news presenter - a good one at that, I might add. If death hadn't laid its icy hands on him at the tender age of 41, the sky would have indeed been the limit of his aspirations. The comparison with Mandela is preposterous and the campaign to accord him a state burial is grossly misplaced. The memorial fund set up for him is much appropriate. May his soul rest in peace.

For the first time I have to agree with Akadu. Yes, Kobla worked for the BBC. He was good at what he did. Will our sentiments be the same if he worked for a TV station in Nigeria or Togo?. Additionally, I do not see exactly what he contributed to Ghana per se. Did he establish a scholaship for his folks in Aflao? Did he give back to Legon? What about his former high school. He was enjoying his fame plus pounds. In the grand scheme of things, what did he EXACTLY contribute to Ghana?. Besides Ghanaians identifying him as a Ghanaian. Essien, Abedi Pele and others have a higher place when compared to Komla.

Komla dumor why?, I can not believe you are gone. What happened? Very sad your children have to go through this. Seeing him in rap in that black kente I could not believe such soon. The wicked people will definitely pay for what they did to you. Komla touched the world with his soul. He was hated and envied by a lot who can attain his success. Is painful, very painful that a huge man was carried on board of a flight in a piece of box. Life can be questionable sometimes. State burial or not God knows everything. Why are people so bitter about a lifeless body. Laying on state will not change our salvation. He never knew he was going to die so while we are still here let's check our hearts and ask if we are in line with the word of God. Believe it or not there is heaven and hell. There has to be accountability, people kill, abuse etc etc and other walk uprightly. Do you think God will keep us in the same place. You think God will not fight for the poor and the powerless? Our head of states will spend money kill people and they will enjoy with all the power. You think when they die they will not account for their wicked ways. That's why I laugh at people that say there is no heaven and hell. Some of you just need to leave komla alone he is gone,he has love ones stop making life difficult for them. Let's all seek the salvation of Jesus Christ, this where we can do it. The man is dead,I guess if he were alive he would have said no because he was a humble man. I believe God gives and take and it is said it's appointed for a man to die but the bible said with long life will satisfy you and show you my salvation. Gods plan for us to die in our old age but we are in a world full of wickedness and disease and yet still we don't want to turn from our wicked ways. There is no way any of us here need to abuse each obey over a dead man. May JESUS help us all.

I vividly remembered the first day I listened to him; on the Network Africa programme, i asked my cousin: who's this guy, with a sweet and heavy voice, and a very CLEAN English? I knew he was an African, but his English and manner and method of presentation was so distinct and inspiring that henceforth Network Africa at that time became my best.
Also on the TV programme, i always have to glue to TV anytime am in the capital city; because the SLBC That links with BBC can only be caught in the city.
