A Christian lady who lived next door to an atheist There was a Christian lady who lived next door to an atheist. Every day, when the lady prayed, the atheist guy could hear her. He thought to himself, "She sure is crazy, praying all the time like that. Doesn't she know there isn't a God?" Many times while she was praying, he would go to her house and harass her, saying "Lady, why do you pray all the time? Don't you know there is no God?" But she kept on praying. One day, she ran out of groceries. As usual, she was praying to the Lord explaining her situation and thanking Him for what He was gonna do. As usual, the atheist heard her praying and thought to himself, "Humph! I'll fix her." He went to the grocery store, bought a whole bunch of groceries, took them to her house, dropped them off on the front porch, rang the door bell and then hid in the bushes to see what she would do. When she opened the door and saw the groceries, she began to praise the Lord with all her heart, jumping, singing and shouting everywhere! The atheist then jumped out of the bushes and told her, "You ol' crazy lady, God didn't buy you those groceries, I bought those groceries!" At hearing this, she broke out and started running down the street, shouting and praising the Lord
When he finally caught her, he asked what her problem was. She said, "I knew the Lord would provide me with some groceries, but I didn't know he was gonna make the devil pay for them!"

Your otherwise good piece is spoilt by your wrong entry point. Are you analysing the prayer of the pastor or his personality? If you are analysing the prayer, which I think should be our focus, then it should not be picked out of context. Beyond praying against the fall of the Cedi which everybody seems to have a problem with, the pastor also prayed for the Minister of Finance, etc, for innovation, etc. Was that also bad prayer? I do not think we should be too philosophical about how prayers should be done, otherwise there will be no need to pray. On the other hand, if you were looking for an entry point to attack the pastor's personality, then this cannot be appropriate one. Why, is Duncan-Williams the only pastor with cobwebs in his cupboard? And must he stop being a pastor because of his past or even present weaknesses? Are you perfect yourself? Please, pastors are also human beings! I am not condoning scandalous things some pastors do, but what scandal has Duncan-Williams done to deserve this smear campaign. Why have you chosen to ignore the fact that he contributes to economic growth by establishing Bible Colleges and a University which employs several Ghanaians!! A large part of your piece is good for the general situation of Ghana, but using the recent prayer of Duncan-Williams as an entry point makes it ill-mannered in my opinion.

If pastors are humans why do they think they are above reproach? Duncan William's prayer portrays his attitude and what he imbibes in his congregation.
Looking at his dressing and appearance alone does not conjure up lack of modesty and humility as a pastor. This sort of outlook may cause people to sin by trying to look like the pastor by any means, and we all know the consequences.

You are just as gullible as the guy who never set foot in a classroom in his life.
You, being a university lecturer or student should know people like this Duncan-Williams guy are dupes who hide behind the cloth of the clergy to dupe people. No wonder Ghana is in trouble.
If this is the kind of leadership we are putting out from our Universities, then we are really, really in touble.
The guy put together a good piece no matter how you look at it. His entry point as you put doesn't matter because he hit the nail squarely on the head, be it analyzing D-W's way of praying or his personality both of which are very controversial. D-W should have known that he is a public personality that some people look up to and should have thought seriously about what he was going to say before he uttered that mambo jambo nonsense of "commanding the Cedi to rise". That was the catch phrase that got the smarter guys in our midst in an uproar. The Cedi cannot "rise" without a very sound solid economic backing in this day age. He should have done his research before mounting the pulpit to spout off. Did you think because he was a so-called "man of God", people should keep quiet when he says stupid things? His personality made him say those kinda prayers because he thought his personality can make him get away with murder. What he didn't count on was the fact that not all Ghanaians were fools and gullible.
He did not establish those Bible colleges and the universties as an individual. The church ministry did and I'll bet there are board members in that ministry who are lot smarter than this self-promoting buffoon of a pastor.

I think Doctor Cudjoe knows very well that, to analyse an issue, you must have much knowledge on the topic at stake. That is why in research you do literature review. I hope the doctor knows much of the bible based on which the archbishop prayed, before he waded into the issue. The issue here is, the archbishop prayed in his church commanding the cedi; not at the flag staff house or at the MoFEP or the BoG. Now, the questions are. Is it wrong for pastors to pray about the economy in church? Is commanding objects such as the cedi biblical. Did the pastor say Ghanaians should not work?
The answers are; a pastor is supposed to pray and more especially in church. With regard to commanding things, Joshua commanded the apparent movement of the sun to stop. Note that I said the 'apparent movement' of the sun, which is the rising of the sun from the east and crossing to settle in the west - what the naked eye sees. (this is a well taught concept in geography, and it is different from the fixed position of the sun in space. That is what man sees and it is caused by the rotation of the earth. The Lord Jesus commanded the wind and the waves to obey him. So commanding objects in prayer is scripturally right! I do not see in any way how a pastor praying in church should be interpreted as influencing people not to work. Go to the archbishop's church and you will find out that a lot of intellectuals and achievers are members of his congregation. All I could think when I consider those attacking him is; greediness to use his name to sell their news paper; hatred and dislike for people who succeed and depraved minds and spiritual ignorance. Who told you that when a pastor prays in church, commanding an object like the cedi is not biblical. The bible says our God himself commanded all that is seen and unseen to come to existence. Who ever said if a pastor prays in church it means he is saying we should not work? Doctor what kind of analogy is that!? Please you are a doctor, know that discerning minds are reading when you write. Koo

In fact, what were them lot doing in that Godforsaken place? They are all in it together!

Duncan Williams was expelled from Mfantsipim in the 1970s for being one of the worst students, discipline-wise, that the famous school has ever admitted. He went to Nigeria and joined a band of armed- robbers and killers. He had his fingers chopped off by his own group as a warning to monies he misappriated. He returned to Ghana and started his so- called church with the stolen money. He now goes about with heavily- armed bodyguards for fear descendants of his victims from Nigeria will come and exact their pound of flesh. He has been a crook from childhood. Those of us in our late sixties who remember him from Mfantsipim are not surprised at his dubious character. A swindler par excellence, Ghanaians will be well advised to avoid him like a plague.

Can somebody show me any country with a sound economy built on the strategic pillars of Soccer, politics and religion like we have in Ghana today? Instead of democracy we are now practicing spiritocracy (a government by religion for religion and of religion.)It is only in Ghana that churches are indoctrinating the young and the able to look up to the heavens for miracles instead of preaching hard work as a basis of self development. It is only Ghana that we think God should come and fix our roads, provide electricity , drains and all other infrastructure instead of holding people responsible and accountable for their stewardship of the state. We are now a nation that has forgotten the old Lutheran principle that hard work also leads to salvation. Today when a bridge collapses in Ghana we shall not call on engineers to tell us why but pastors and mallams. The most astonishing thing in Ghana is why the cedi has not fallen even further given our attitudes and penchant for bribery corruption and all that is evil among men.
