President Mahama in his address told Ghanaians the cost of his free education policy,he has built classrooms and trained teachers.Nana on the other hand failed to provide such details,he was caught off guard.Mind you, in politics you have to neutralize the strengths of the opposition. The president is on top of his game, smart politics. It is absurd for the followers of the NPP to be throwing tantrums,no party can claim ownership of a policy not implemented,if you implement it then you can claim it,just like the national health insurance under former President Kuffuor.Merely advocating means nothing, give credit to the President,he is a smart tactician and shrewd.President John Mahama has capped the oxygen flow to the NPP and they know it.

Providing free education is a constitutional requirement and has nothing to do with politics.Whoever implements it implements a constitutional requirement.Failure to implements it amounts to a breach of the constitution.

There is no NPP Ghana or NDC Ghana but just one Ghana. There is nothing visionary about free shs.It has existed in the North for a very long time, this is just an extension of the program Dr Kwame Nkrumah put in place.Nkrumah gave free education to the North because they were then very poor compared to the South.I hope Prez Mahama is not going to introduce a wholesale free shs. There must be a condition to qualify for it,the program should go to only the poor families even the rich families in the North must also pay for their kids.If we don't put administrative conditions to help only the poor ones then I think the program will not be sustainable.Thank you.

READ YOUR HISTORY AND YOU WOULD REALISE THAT THE AGENDA FOR FREE EDUCATION IS EVEN IN OUR CONSTITUTION SO HOW AND HOW COULD YOU ATTRIBUTE THIS AS A NANA AKUFO-ADDO'S VISION? IS THIS ANOTHER WAY OF YOUR 'STEALING' FORMULA?. OH, MAY BE YOU ARE HALF EDUCATED AND DON'T/CAN'T READ TO UNDERSTAND OUR CONSTITUTION. FREE EDUCATION IS A NATIONAL AGENDA BUT AKUFO-ADDO PROPOSAL WAS NOTHING SHORT OF A PROPAGANDA. I STARTED BY BUILDING HOUSES IN NIMA, A STADIUM IN THE MEMORY OF THE LATE ALIU MAHAMA ETC. ANY PERSON WITH A POLITICAL FORESIGHT KNEW THAT HE WAS NOT SERIOUS BUT JUST USING 'FREE EDUCATION' AS A BAIT FOR VOTES. BY WISE.

Having said that can the state look after every child when some parents just bring children into this world recklessly.
There should be a cap on it of some sort like 2 children per mother to rule out any situation where irresponsible births.

Amankwah-Sarfo has not only insulted the intelligence of the NPP foot soldiers but the intelligence of all who vote for all things NPP. The free education proposal was not only a bone headed proposal by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia team but has been made worse by President John Mahama. What the president, John Mahama, has exposed for all to see is that when politicians are failing the country they will pull up tricks from their bags of tricks to fool the voting public. This foolish trick was initiated by an NPP party desperately seeking a win of the presidency and now the lack-luster performing John Mahama administration is pulling the same trick in the hope of boosting his favorability numbers amongst Ghana’s voting public.
President John Mahama's so-called advisors are a sorry bunch because they lack ideas, ideals and foresight. How will free education create sustainable jobs in Ghana? Free education in itself does not guarantee quality education neither will it guarantee the graduation of highly qualified and technically-inclined graduates/products from our school system. Free education will most likely help to make parents turn our schools into centers for baby-sitting while the parents go in search of food and or what it is most of the irresponsible parents do. Parents who spend money to educate their children are more likely to pay attention to events at the schools their children attend and or are likely to follow up on intellectual improvements or failures of their children.
The two things about government expenditures on education that has a prayer in shaping the education of Ghana's school age children while it addresses some of the unemployment problems we face are as follows:
1. Provide free transportation for all school children. This should encourage competition within private transportation entities which may have to vie for the opportunity to transport children on yearly contract or a national government school bus fleet that will be carved out of the budgets currently used to buy unnecessary cars for government departments. In either case, there will be the need to hire more drivers, the state will benefit from the fees they extract from those seeking class A drivers license, insurance companies will see a boom while there will be the need to have more qualified mechanic to work on those school bus fleet. Parents can have the needed time to get to work on time and will be more productive knowing their children are in safe hand going to school and coming home. The economic benefits will be multiplied by the effective use and recycling of money through the various entities that benefit from this.
2. The government may also chose to renovate school buildings throughout the country irrespective of size or location of school building. This will mandate that for the next 20 years government fund the renovation at all schools in Ghana. The jobs needed for the renovation projects will include carpenters, masons, plumbers, electricians, low voltage contractors, block layers etc. This will ensure we grow the economy now and for the foreseeable future. This is how a government can grow the economy while it improves the education of our youth. The free education nonsense is for those limited in knowledge or lacking foresight. Are our children any less than the children attending schools in civilized western nations?

Those who visit this site and exhibit pure hatred towards Nana has the right to do that and what should not exit the minds of these people is that Nana is a Ghanaians pure and simple. Yes, it is a fact that free education is enshrined in the constitution then the question is, why did NDC insult Nana for coming out with that policy? Commonsense should come in here not just mere insults.
Nana was reduced to a mere rag in the last presidential election for saying he will implement a policy of free education to secondary school level and that opened the door for unrelenting insults from NDC camp knowing too well that it is in the constitution. Why was Nana insulted? Some even questioned its funding including Mahama himself so, why the U-turn?
Governance is all about "commonsense". Lack it and leadership will be an insurmountable task. That is the problem with Mahama and NDC. They lack commonsense. Why? Because they are just a shadow of themselves. Foolish people cannot rule or govern a nation. If it is in our constitution that secondary school should be free and a candidate use it to campaign, why should that attract insults then the president who orchestrated all the insults, came to his senses and made a "quick" U-turn and include that in his state of the nation address thereby vindicating his opponent.
