I have always thought Gonjas have no problems. I thought it is we Dagombas that have problems. This writing shows that all is not well with Gonjas too especially where he said: While other traditional areas suffer for lack of paramount chiefs due to death and subsequent chieftaincy disputation as to who is eligible to ascend the throne as successor, we have always been fortunate and highly praised for peaceful transitions especially at the Yagbon level. But have we turned this into an advantage?"

As a Gonja I think Gonjaland needs the like of Mahama Haruna to develop. Fearless and will say things as they are. This article is full of facts. I just copied it and will keep it. Our Traditional leaders are becoming so corrupt. I urge all Gonjalanders to demand accountability for the billions of compensation money that are being used carelessly and anyhow. Some Chiefs have bought cars with customed made numbers and flags flying on those cars.

Well done Haruna, but moving forward, what do we do? The institution as corrupt n bogus as it is becoming, it can never be scraped or abolished. Our chiefs collaborate with Sisala charcoal burners and foreign fulani herdsmen to destroy our environment n food crops with impunity N when you complain or challenge any status quo,you are told where U come from (not from the royal family) if U are lucky not to be identified as a slave decent n to shut up when royals (Ngbanyabi)are taking decisions about their town or village.
But the bane of all the problems perfectly identified by Haruna in Gonjaland lies in the fact that about 99.2% of the Chiefs are either illiterates or semi-literate n therefore do not appreciate the impact of some of their actions and inactions on the lives of the people they lead. Take a cursory look at the 2010 population n Housing Census n the 2008 Ghana Demography & Health survey n U find that districts in Gonjaland have the worse indicators in Health and Education, the poorest among the larger poor (NR).
Hope more n more people will follow your steps or team up with you so that we raise a collective voice to champion the development of Gonjaland. As said by Albert Eistein "The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about".
