One thing a lot of people are afraid to talk about is why the government finds it convenient to employ only people from the three Northern regions to manage this agency. Does it mean other tribes are not capable to work for SADA?
SADA is a publicly funded agency and other tribes should not be excluded from working at that agency. Maybe a few people from outside the Northern tribes can break the Northern clique that has hijacked this agency as their fiefdom and make it run better.

very true ,the problem with this northern mentality is that thanks to jj they now all have an unquenchable thirst for power but never to serve in a team or accept their fellow countrymen . just look around in Accra and study the majority of the businesses owned by these northerners and in the majority of the medium and Small sized businesses you notice they only employ their fellow northerners and practically never employ an Akan . Today in Accra the largest religious building in the country will be the mosque being build on our national park at Nima donated by Turkey confirming the Islamic domination of Ghana. Tribalism mixed with chauvinism and despotism from the north has now equaled the hegemony of the ewes . A.C.C.R.A any criminal can roam about so we have them everywhere now . even at the scholarship secretariat hardly ever is an Akan awarded the privilege to go abroad and study now . The Akans are the majority but because most continue to sleep or blindly trust the other tribes these atrocities are taking place . We look at the political strategy of the NDC and see the typical Hannibal wench when he turned the strengths of the mighty Roman army against themselves as they are doing to the Akans . From the south they use part of the Fantis and from the North the Brongs , from behind we have the chariot onslaught of the Gas Ewes Krobos. Yes the political landscape reflects a war which is only meant to destroy the right of self governance of the God's chosen nation of Africa the Akan . For them its a big deal who leads the NPP but we really don't care as our movement grows stronger by the hour as more and more Akans wake up to reality of this dire situation . We did not ask for this war but we will fight it and be victorious as God is with us . Long live the Republic of Akan

Only irresponsible govts will allow such persons to go free! We wait to see.

Idris, apparently, your ability to reason and read between the lines is compromised by your prejudice against SADA...you have already formed negative opinions about the agency, so no amount of cajoling, nagging or convincing can turn you around.....the crux of the piece was to call for an overhaul of the agency in terms of a new management and new methods of dealing with the agency's interim and long term objectives....I don't have to specify the successful projects of SADA because that is not the central theme of the article.....and yes, SADA is not the only corrupt agency in Ghana...what the hell is wrong with that statement, Mr. Pacas?
If you can glean anything at all from that, it is this......lack of governmental oversight allows many state agencies to loot public coffers and that is a historical fact that you and the rest cannot run away from, SADA's corruption notwithstanding.....

The tribal sentiments in Ghana, especially, by the losers in politics, are getting scarier. Oftentimes, I hear panelists on Radio Gold's Alhaji and Alhaji, claiming that NPP is an Akan party. The question I ask myself is, does the NPP prevent other Ghanaians from joining their party? If NPP gets 75% of Ashanti votes, and NDC gets about 90% of Volta votes, which party is more tribal? Again, NPP national executives come from across the country, but the NDC seem to have only Akans as their executives. Apart from President Mahama, every other significant post in NDC is held by an Akan. VP Amisah Arthur, Gen Sec Asiedu Nketia, Nat Org Boateng Gyan, Party Chairman Kwabena Agyei. If this had been done by NPP, they would screamed of tribalism even in their sleep. This shows how hypocrite and dishonest these guys are. But it insincerity must stop. It's a dangerous game for Ghana

Moses Kofi Yahaya contends that SADA's woes aren't an indictment of the north so whose indictment is it? I'd say it's an indictment of both the North and the government administration. SADA is a development program for the nation with the people of the North in mind. The managers and administrators are mostly northern indignees and their failure is primarily personal, local (regional)and secondly national.
I've always maintained that for an equitable national development program to be achieved we should bear one another's burdens, mourning with the mourners and rejoicing with those who rejoice. The failure of SADA is everyone's failure but we must require much from where much was given.
SADA is another laudable national development program with particularly the north in mind and the people of the north or their representatives must be good stewards of what the entire nation sacrificed to place in their hands.
The argument that the purpose of SADA is to help the north catch up with the south is very lame and dumb because there's nothing enviable in the south. Under-development is equally distributed among the nation's 10 regions and SADA must be seen by its intended benefactors as a privilege and advantage.
The equalization politics must stop immediately if we're serious about a rapid national development. Some got away with unbridled corruption and greed in the past so does it mean we as s people have rendered ourselves powerless to nip it in the bud today? That's untenable and defeatist. Where and when to start is here and now.

Abrampa, my assertion that SADA troubles should not used as a prism through which an entire group is negatively viewed is largely a repudiation of the acerbic and neurotic comments that heralded the release of the AG's report...
Yes, it is embarrassingly naive and puerile to assume as many southerners do that SADA's managerial failures and ineptitude are solid enough reasons to dissolve an agency that despite its apparent shortcomings, can do some good if the right managerial material is put in place....
Of course, there is no denying the fact that poverty and underdevelopment are widespread and not just confined to the north alone -- nonetheless, the degree of poverty varies and in the north poverty and underdevelopment are steep and entrenched....with no end in sight despite glowing promises from politicians to "fix the problem."
No and no again, SADA is not a privilege and an advantage...far from it..it is an honest effort to address a historical wrong...the marginalization and woeful neglect of the north, the genesis of which can be traced back to the colonial era. And post independence Ghanaian administrations have never found a solution contrary to electioneering promises to do so....the northern regions of West Africa have historically been vilified and confined to the periphery of their societies...these are powder-kegs waiting to explode....if they have not already...an aside, but a crucial point to interject here nonetheless.
Look, Abrampa, there is absolutely nothing defeatist and untenable about my convictions. I am not in any way shape or form justifying the alleged corruption at SADA.
The main thrust of my piece is that SADA should not be dissolved and confined to the scrapheap of failed state organizations.....Ghana Airways and Regional Development Corporations.....instead, a new life should be breathed into the agency by the infusion of new and capable talent from other regions....there is the instance of Mr. Ampofo in the 70s who efficiently steered the affairs of the Upper Regional Development Corporation and his name is legend in that part of the country for all the good work he did for the region....his type can be found if the government looks around enough.

Moses, I never doubt your sincerity when you write these articles to address issues of importance affecting Ghana as a whole and Northern Ghana in particular. However, I think you stopped short of suggesting that those involved in all the alleged corruption should be investigated and if found culpable they should be prosecuted and made to undergo whatever action that is required.
As a witness to the political and judicial system in the US you know that even though there are instances of political corruption in the US as well, but the differences is that political interferance hardly stops the judical system from taking it's course when there is any malfeasance. In Ghana anything from common crime by political activists to serious crimes by people well connected to the government all get swept under the rug due to political obstruction of justice.
What we are witnessing in Ghana is due to politicians interfering or intimadating law enforcement from doing their work for the good of the nation. I think until such time that the separation of powers clauses in government are seriously adhered to according to the law, nothing will stop people in public positions from abusing their office. Let's not shy away from calling for serious action to be taken against people engaged in these corrupt deals even if they happen to be friends or acquaintances.

Titugri, I hope I have not underachieved with this article. My intention was clearly not to throw a blanket of protection around those accused of swindling large amounts of public money at SADA....however, if there are any circumventions, there weren't deliberate at all....
The point I tried to trot out in my piece is that despite the naked rot at SADA, punitive measures should not be taken against the institution itself..the culprits should bear the brunt of such measures...dismantling the agency as some are maliciously suggesting would impact negatively on those the agency was created to serve in the first place....poor northern folks.
I share your misgivings about the political system in Ghana. Political intimidation is the bane of democracy in Africa...it is counterproductive and speaks volumes about Africa's unpreparedness for this form of governance.
What to do to counteract political intimidation?....build strong institutions..both public and private...and formulate legislation to shore up these institutions coupled with a punishing regime of sanctions against all those who will pilfer public funds..
Honestly, with the exception of Kennedy Mohammed I barely know anyone at SADA.....now Titugri, Kennedy is a good friend and I have not shied away from sharing my concerns about SADA with him...our email exchanges bear that out...
Yes, of course, those culpable of corruption at SADA should be made to face the music....fines, jail time and repayment of squandered money...however, whether that will serve as deterrents remain to be seen as evidenced by the rampant corruption that still bedevils our society....
